Cocoay, with some spicing, like a caramel spice cake coved in chocolate, little hints of the bourbon, taste dosen’t reveal the spice to much ,mostly velvety, caramel chocolate with lots of the vanilla apects of the bourbon, almost has a chocolate liquerfinish,no roastedness, pleasant, satisfying, wonderful, thanks kingpin

750ml from 2006. Pours brown with a beige head. Lots of sediment. Aroma is of alcohol, bourbon, dark fruit, and lots of sugar. Smells really like oily bourbon. Taste is huge on the oak with lots of chocolate. Big, sugary taste follows up the oak. There is also dark fruit, and some earthiness. Lingering sugary oak and fruit taste. Finish is very dry and oaky. Mouthfeel is very carbonated, but sticky. Body is very carbonated, but not light. Exceptional. This has aged very well.

Gift from SJ. Nice notes of earth, honey, wood, spice, fig, and sweet malt. This got better and better as it warmed.

Bottle at home with friends, courtesy of Scott. Huge thanks for this one man!! Pour is murky brown with a small cream-colored head and decent lacing. Big sherry, dark fruits, cherries, red licorice, slightly oaky, bourbon, and toffee aroma. Taste is smoky, lightly earthy, figs, caramel, caramel, dark fruits, cherry, raisins, and plums with a somewhat tangy finish. Slick mouthfeel with medium carbonation. Unbelievable for 7 years-old.

2006 Batch

8/03/2010: Goose Island Imperial Brovvn Goose... Aroma: Seemless blend of chocolate, licorice, and cherry; reminds me of a fine port; wonderul carmelization; hints of vanilla. Appearance: Deep garnet color; large head of beige head quickly gathers on the pour - hopefully this beer hasn’t become overcarbonated; quick bursts of carbonation; the bubbly heads stays around for a respectable period of time and leaves a persistent creamy crown. Flavor: Wow, really smooth and rich blend of chocolates, caramelized wood and malt, molasses, and dark chocolate-covered cherries filled with bourbon; a bit of vanilla; dry finish with plenty of residual bourbon tingling on the palate and lips along with some lingering black licorice root; hints of almond come through when the beer warms. Palate: Medium-full body; smooth; well-carbonated, but over the top. Overall: I decided to pop this because I had read that it was starting to slip downhill at this point. However, I was glad to discover that it is still pretty damn good!

1 pint 9 fl. oz. [750 ml] capped bottle (8% Alc. by Vol.). Rating #172 for this beer.

Old rating from 2010 bottle from 2006 - thanks jwale73. Appears deep, dark cola colored with large lumpy tan head. Smell is rich malt, dark fruit - big nose. Taste is dark fruit, tons of licorice, maple with a crispy dry aftertaste. Carbonation is a bit high.

Bottle from twisted spoke. This one poured a murky lighter brown color with a small beige head. Aroma was oak, caramel toffee, light bourbon, spices and oxidation. flavor was somewhat oxidized, but that is to be expected for the age on this one. Bold toffee and caramel, llight spice and light bourbon. Decent.

From notes. First reviewed 12/28/2010. Poured from a 750 mL bottle into a snifter. The pour quickly foams up out of the bottle. In the glass, the color is a mostly clear maple color with a huge bubbly off-white head. Great retention and a little bit of lace on the glass. A great strong bourbon aroma dominates, but the Christmas spices, oak, and sweet caramel malt are there as well. Great taste with sweet malt, oak, and bourbon up front. The bourbon dominates but allows the Christmas Ale to come through with the spices. No real hoppy character due to the age. Mouthfeel: The carbonation is fully and bubbly. It feels like there are large exploding bubbles in my mouth. Somewhat smooth and creamy, but the bubbly carbonation is the most noticeable. A little bit of bourbon touches the throat and warms the stomach. Actually a little bit light feeling -- bourbon plus a lighter bodied base beer will do that. I definitely like this better than the Christmas Ale. Probably too cost-prohibitive to regularly drink at this point, though.

(750ml bottle from jcnd9803). Pours a cloudy dark brown with thin tan head. Aroma is light bourbon, vanilla, coconut. Taste is sweet with lots of barrel characteristics. Medium bodied. Really good stuff.
