On tap at Darkness Eve at Stub and Herbs. Clear brown pour, thin white head. Extremely complex, notes of maple, vanilla, bourbon, caramel, toffee, and a sweet finish. Like drinking a sweet maple oak brew, perfectly balanced and delicious.

Huge sample at gi cly... This is labled as bourbon barrel aged extra naughty goose @ 10% abv... Pours a pretty dark cola brown with lighter edges and little to no head... Aroma of bourbon, caramel, and dark fruits. Boozy and sweet... Flavors are heated with a dominating bourbon influence which are then supplemented by some dark fruit and toffee. The alcohol overrides everything and leaves a warming spicy boozy bitterness. This one has got to mellow out.

Clear amber with a medium off white head. Sweet aroma with hard roasted malt, espresso and dark chocolate. Sweet flavour with hard roasted malt, chocolate and coffee notes. Finished sweet.

on tap at Goose Clybourne. nice pour, med dark brown chocolate colr slight haze, and rich tan head. Smells like brown sugar, and brownie. Sweet beginning with hints of toffee nuts and toasted vanilla. Balanced to the malt side with a subtle soft floral and quenching hop bitterness. full mouthfeel.

Clybourn Brewpub, Beer school (2005 version): reddish brown, with an orange twinge. Off tan, creamy head that diminishes quickly. Vanilla and toffee mixed aromatics with leftover pine and nutty cake with wisps of alcohol and coconut. As this quickly warms, the alcohol becomes overpowering and the woody components tingle the tongue. Missing the depth I would have expected from something sitting in the wood and leaves something to be desired, even as an aperitif…

Dark brown/garnet body with a thick, fluffy tan head. Bourbon, toasted grains, caramel, coconit, toffee, vanilla, light pine, raisin and a touch of alcohol. Thick, full body with some chewy parts dispersed intermittenly. Malty and warm, with strong bourbon elements and a touch of hops. Mostly vanilla, caramel, maple and nuts. Nothing extremely interesting about this one, but not a terrible offering. Some people would love it, but I just like it.

TAR (2410) - Lafayette, Colorado, USA - JUL 26, 2005
Draft: Deep ruby. Large, but consistently-sized, drab white bubbles. Subdued chocolate glazed toffee aroma with cakey malt and prunes. Vague note of woody tannins. Softly carbonated, but fuzzy and brisk. Thin in body. Understated vanilla and heavy crème-infused caramel softness immediately absorb the initial wave of tannins. Sneaky earthy huskiness resides beneath the cleansing sweep of alcohol. Hint of moist tobacco compensates for the leafy hop acidity which hampers the body. Feeble foundation of caramel and bread. Light brush of oak is far outweighed by the tannins. Closes with a drying potting soil grit alongside toffee and sweetened prune hints. Simplistic and subdued aroma, poorly conditioned body, and despite the alcohol and tannin timidity, the malt richness fails to fully blossom.

On tap at Clybourn... Poured a very dark brown with very little creamy tan head (possibly because my snifter was overpoured). Initial aromas were very strong of bourbon, but upon further inspection began to show the usual characteristics of hazelnut, chocolate and malt. Flavors were also very characteristic of a brown ale, chocolate, nuts and malt, but interestingly there was not much bourbon in the mouthfeel. In fact it was very smooth and perhaps a bit watery. Overall, quite enjoyable.

(Tap, Clark location) Pours a dark brown body with a medium-sized tan head. Aroma of bourbon, malt, and nuts. Flavor of bourbon, chocolate malt, toasted marshmellow, and sweet caramel. Soft, creamy palate.
