Great Taste 09. Strong up front alcoholic flavor with sweet malt and oak in the background. I got a little bit of the sherry in the finish with more sweet malt, vanilla, maple, and light chocolate, but there were some hot alcohols in here.

GTMW 2009. Poured a cloudy amber color with a white head. Lavish aroma profile that included the likes of bourbon, caramel, vanilla, and dark fruits. medium to full bodied. The alcohol warmth was less that I had expected for the 15% ABV. Lots of fruit flavor up front reminiscent of reduced citrus juices. There was also a strong vinous, fruity red wine note with a malty toffee and molasses backbone. Very unusual, very boozy.

On tap at GTMW. Poured rich, hazy plummy-brown with a dusting of beige head. The aroma was very assertive with bourbon and sherry sugars leading.. sweet caramel malts and vinous fruits beneath.. the sweets masked the alcohol, but you could tell it was lurking. The flavor was led by the boozage.. sweet bourbon, sour oak, and dry vinous character sat over cane sugar and sweet caramel.. hot and bourbonny with more oak sourness on the finish.. hot, sweet, and messy. Heavy-bodied with sourness and some metallic character on the palate.. this kicked hard.

(Draught) Pours a murky amber-brown body with a small beige head. Aroma of bourbon, caramel, toffee, and yeast. Flavor of raisins, figs, caramel, bourbon, toffee, and herbs.

An excellent example of how whiskey barrel aging should be done. It did not ruin the beer as did most of the BA atrocities at GTMW 09 but rather enhanced it. Murky brown body with faint head with a distinct dark pitted fruit aroma (and other sherry suspects). Mostly vanilla from the bourbon aging but some biscuitiness as well.

Great Taste, 2009. I liked this quite a bit, and I certainly would not have guessed 15%. Impressively made. Notes of brown sugar and sour cherry dominate the palate, with vanilla adding a supporting role, The finish manages to be both sweet and tart. Very warming, but not hot. Perhaps the ultimate cigar beer?

On tap at GTMW Light brown muddy pour w/ a light tan head First scent is more wine than beer bourbon def present sweet oak. Vanilla starts to cover the base beer Smooth rich palate Flavor has a light tart under the sweet bourbon & sherry w a dry oaky finish Odd & delicious not sure where the light tart came from but it was a nice offset

Sampled at GTMW 2009 (Madison, WI). Pours a bourbon hued brown, little to no head. Aromas are largely bourbon, oak and vanilla with a warm boozy feel. Initial is warming, a bit tart up front, moving straight into warming bourbon, barrel oak, vanilla. This beer gets covered up by the barrel, making it simply a display of bourbon in my book, with little else coming through aside from sort tartness and bitterness in the finish. Bourbon doesn’t linger well

Cask at DOLA 09. Pours a red brown with no head. Rich aromas of bourbon, sherry, and red fruit. The sherry makes it seem oxidized, which works really well. Cherry sherry and oak flavors that are rich, sweet, and syrupy. The alcohol starts out small but gets hotter. Still smooth to drink though. I really enjoyed this one, despite the heat.

Cask at Day of the Living Ales. Murky brown with no head. I can smell it from a mile away. Ultra sweet, bourbon and sherry in there for sure. Caramel, cocoa, butter, toffee. Quite hot (ABV around 15%?). Fun to drink, but the 1.5 oz pour was enough.
