COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
At Goose Island our brewers take every opportunity to experiment with new ingredients and aging techniques. For this edition of Bourbon County Brand Stout, they aged the classic recipe in rye whiskey barrels with raspberries and blackberries from Michigan. The result is a powerfully rich beer with notes of tart fruit and jam that fade into the warm spice of a fine rye whiskey.

Bottle for rating #6200:   Goose Island Bourbon County Bramble Rye Cough Syrup should sum this up nicely.

Bottle shared at the Kulminator. Pours pitch black, no head. Intense nose of freshly squeezed forest fruits and roasted coffee beans. Medium body with nice roastiness, but my lord, the astringent fruit sours make the beer rather uh... not that good. Promising in the nose, but missed it.

Bottle - Boozy and jam and mollasses. Jet black with a thin head. Jam and chocolate chocolate. Just like at Christmas, but good. Another winner.

Bottled @ Zeebra #2. Sampled 5cl. The aroma has lots of fruity berries, some bourbon, some chocolate, some roast. Black coloured beer with a thin, off-white head. The taste is sweet, has raspberries, dark fruits, roast, chocolate, booze. Very nice. Medium-full bodied, velvetty.

650ml bottle. Black with brown foam. Very nice layered aroma. Fruit-forward at first, with blackberry seeming to edge it over raspberry. Behind the fruit is bourbon and behind that is chocolate maltiness. Taste is also fruit-smothered but I can just pick out hints of tobacco, roast etc from the base and barrel. Almost chewy palate at times. Peppered with sweetness all through, but never overly so. The inclusion of the fruits work well enough, but I think I’d prefer fruit elements in a stout to be a sideline rather than a focus point.

What a great experiment. The roastedness and Bourbon vanilla combine greatly with the bramble rye whiskey notes and the fruits. Amazing beer.

Bottled @ Zeebra #2, small sample. Dark color, short head. Aroma of vanilla, chocolate, roasted malts. In flavor lots of blackberries and dark ripe fruit, which was hardly in the aroma. Slight tartness as well. Nice stuff, but I preferred the more subtle cherry version.

At Zeebra Beer Festival, THX to everybody sharing today’s beers. APPEARANCE: pitch black beer, small unstable beige head. NOSE: alcohol, coffee, quite fruity, berries. TASTE: alcohol, coffee, chocolate.

Sampled @ Zeebra 2014. Took this one because it says that blackberries are included in the recipe. The beer was disappointing for a Goose Island version. Unbalanced. Too sweet, fruity. However, there is a rich aftertaste with hints of alcohol (which lack in the main body of the beer)
