COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
At Goose Island our brewers take every opportunity to experiment with new ingredients and aging techniques. For this edition of Bourbon County Brand Stout, they aged the classic recipe in rye whiskey barrels with raspberries and blackberries from Michigan. The result is a powerfully rich beer with notes of tart fruit and jam that fade into the warm spice of a fine rye whiskey.

Bottle from tderoeck. Many thanks! On RBBWG 2015. Dark brown/black colour. Oily texture. Soft carbonation. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee, whisky, vanilla, red fruit. Well balanced. Bit on the sweet side but very good.

#4500. Thanks to tderoeck! Happy birthday. 650 ml. bottle sampled @ RBBWG IV. Black, no head. Nose is thick mocha, huge bourbon, spirit-like, chocolate, thick syrupy, sludgy, light berries. Taste is warming, boozy bourbon in a good way, boozy tasting (bourbon is strong & boozy as is usual for BCBS variants), lots of berries, almost jam-like in the start, warming, chocolate with molasses-like consistency. Thick, little in the way of carbonation. Awesome as usual for these beers.

Sampled from bottle @ RBBWG. Opaque pitch black color, small off-white to beige head. Smell and taste malts, lightly sourish firm roast.A bit too firm actually. imo it’s too much and not very balanced. Meh.

Bottle @ the Epic Bourbon County Tasting. Pours a pitch black beer with a very small beige head on top. Aroma has sweet malts, fruits, bourbon touches and an overwhelming sweet fruity presence. Flavor has bourbon notes, loads of very sweet red fruits and the sweetness is very overwhelming, almost too much. It’s so sweet, that it’s hard to get the sweetness. It’s like drinking unblended fruit juicy with chocolate sauce drizzled over it. Very sweet and fruity..

Bottle sampled at the De Molen Bourbon County Tasting. Pours near black with a ring beige head. Aroma of big jammy berries, red and black fruits, light chocolate, bourbon characters below. Flavour is light heavy sweet. Full bodied with soft carbonation. Good, but certainly doesn’t improve on the base.

Sample at the Bourbon County tasting, De Molen. Poured a deep mahogany. The aroma is rich fruit, roasty malt, tart, yeast, red berry fruit. The flavour is light sour, light sweet with a light malt, molasses yeast, over ripe fruit palate. Medium bodied with average carbonation.

Very nice blackberry and raspberry smell. Taste is tart berries with a touch of juicy sweetness mixed with a very solid chocolatey stout. Delicious. Body is smooth and medium to thick with light carbonation.

Bottle: Thanks to Beerlistman: Vintage 2011: Served in Chouffe glass: Black beer with a lively brown head. Aroma is a beautiful mix of raspberries, whiskey, molasses, some berries, rye and roast. Beautiful! Flavour of raspberries, whiskey, roast, berries, liquorice, malt roast, bitters, wood, some yeast, wood roast and sweets. Aftertaste has some dark fruits, strange bitterness, some whiskey, wood burn and sweets. Low carbo, creamy close to silky mouthfeel, close to full bodied. Delicious stuff!
