4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Aroma: whiskey, chocolate, caramel and toffee, some sweet berry notes. Pours jet black, thin brown head with little retention or lacing. Flavor: lots of chocolate and sweet berries, jam, toffee, nice whiskey notes and a touch of spice. Medium bitterness, alcohol is well hidden, sweet finish. Very full body, low carbonation, slick on the palate. Interesting, maybe a bit heavy on the sweet berry flavors, but quite enjoyable.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
22 ounce bottle pours dark black, aromas of chocolate, whisky, light raspberries, and some light cherry notes. Flavors are a mixture of chocolate, light roast, whiskey, some earth, followed by a light raspberry aftertaste. A really solid stout, and was not expecting the light fruit that paired nicely with the booze, and chocolate flavors.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bomber, purchased at the Connecticut Ave Liquor Store in DC from Al. Many thanks again Al! Pours the expected crude oil hue with an initially huge brown sugar head that peters out quickly. Lots of bubbling activity on the surface of the beer though, even with all the foam gone. Aroma is like chocolate raspberry rum cake. There is something maybe a little off that I can’t quite put my finger on in the nose, but maybe it’s the ABV? Up front taste is very dark fruity sweet, followed by some decent rye whiskey notes, finished off by one more taste of blackberry jam. It seems a little rushed in its complexity though, as if everything needs to hurry up and happen so we can get to the burning boozy finish. At times the palate even feels a little sharp and muddled. It’s good, no question, and the nearly 13% ABV is certainly perceptible, but I’m not sure that it’s a huge improvement over the classic. Yes, mission accomplished, there are rasp and blackberry flavors in the beer, and it has a nice rye whiskey burn. It’s good, strong, and yet surprisingly balanced, all things considered. Still, not a favorite for me.

4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
A - Pours a dark black color with a thin finger of frothy chocolate colored head. The head fades away fairly quickly leaving behind some light lacing.
S - Aroma is a mix of vanilla, oak, Bourbon, rye, roasted chocolate malts, berries, dark fruits, molasses, black licorice, booze.
T - Starts off with a mix of blackberries and raspberries, roasted dark chocolate malts, vanilla, some dark fruits, and a bit of black licorice. Through the middle, the oak, Bourbon, and rye come through with some molasses, and some more sweet berries. The finish is a mix of berries, oak, vanilla, rye, Bourbon, chocolate malts, molasses, and some booze.
M - Full bodied with mild carbonation. Feels smooth with a sweet and warming finish.
D - Very drinkable. Big bold barrel character, but it is balanced very nicely by the body and the berries. Fantastic.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
22 oz. bottle served in a CBS snifter. Bottle on 12/10/11 with a 1116 after the date.
A: Pours a jet black with a one finger dark mocha head forming on the pour. It subsides quickly to a thin collar and leaves some legs behind. The stick is there, but no lace.
S: Upfront there is the solid barrel smell. Rye whiskey and the booze are more present up front than the regular and Coffee of this year. The oak is very much present as well and there is an odd fruity sweetness on the backend, but it’s not as pronounce as I would have imagined. There is a slight spice from rye lingering in there.
T: The bramble fruit really comes into play in the taste. There is an underlying tartness and sweetness from the fruit. I’m getting the darker fruits for sure, mainly black berries. After having a desert with raspberries last night I really can’t get much of it. There is a slight cherry cough syrup flavor in the middle that lingers in the background throughout the finish, but the barrel comes through in the end to remind you it’s still Bourbon County. Slight roast with a caramel and vanilla sweetness and a minimal chocolate. The rye whiskey gives a slight spice to the finish that prickles the tongue a bit.
M: A touch too thin on the body for my liking, but the body is creamy and sticky all the same. Carbonation is low as usual to allow the stick across the palate. The alcohol is noticeable more so than the other variants of this year.
O: Well....it’s ok. I’m not one to like hops or fruit flavors in my darker beer and this one, at the moment, doesn’t do it for me. It’s still a very solid and above average BA beer, but at the moment the jammy fruit flavors are a little much for me.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Sampled multiple times at WhiskeyFest Chicago. The beer pours to a black body with a tan head. The aroma is quite good. Lots of dark fruits like blackberries and other fruits from spiked plants. There’s lots of chocolate malts, some anise, and rye whiskey. I quite enjoyed this beer. The palate was thick and coating, but not sticky. Rich beer.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20

2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20

1.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 6/20
Bottle thanks to GT2. Oily black pour, no head. Aroma of blackberry, gooseberry, graham cracker, toasted grain, oatmeal, like opening a box of cereal that has dried fruits in it, not bad but a bit artificial for my taste. Taste is where it gets nasty, super sweet malt bomb, chocolate covered fruits, jam, blackberries, wood, alcohol. Palate is heavy and slick, almost flat. Pretty damn horrid IMO.
