Flight pour on tap at the brewpub (Chicago, IL). Rushed over after a morning work session on a Saturday.. pleasant surprise. Pours a brownish deeper hued pour, some haziness in the body, more light on the edges with frothy tannish head atop, dies to a filmy layer and laces small. Aromas are a nice melange of spice, brown malts, and barrel presence. Vanilla, oak, and touches of toasty coconut. Gentle spirit grip as peppermint minty clean elements, gentle spice hit the nose. Touches of toast, biscuit, caramel. Initial is similar, a medium body, the beer supports the barrel well here. Cooling peppermint hits, gentle yet flavorful barrel, tannic wood, vanilla, gentle toffee, toast, and brown malts. Biscuits, as the mint sustains. Vanilla, dryness, and some gentle body lifts up the spirit. Kiss of heat, lingering peppermint. The peppermint doesn’t get cloying here, something you can always fear when mint meets beer. Pretty nice one here.
