Sampled on tap at Goose Belgian Fest (Chicago, IL). Pours a glowing orange amber darker pour, fiery edges with a frothy whitish head that dies to a film, laces small. Aromas are a touch boozy, with some cherries, dark fruit, bread, biscuits, lots of vanilla and oak. A touch of booziness and the vanilla comes in hardcore. Lots of barrel. You smell that barrel. Initial is medium bodied with bread and vanilla, lots of oak, moving into sweet and tart cherries, a warming wave of ABV into the backend. Picks up some decent tartness from the cherries, lemons, touches of lactic acid and cheese. Oak and sticky sweetness fall away but the ABV stays on the palate and warms. Pretty funky, cherries don’t have a chance to get medicinal. Feel like this is a big step up from the Blackberry version. Nice. N improvement over regular and Blackberry.
