It pours a pretty copper with a thick tan head. Aroma is full of malts with a hint of brown sugar. It’s very well balanced & smooth on the palate. Nothing spectacular going on but a truly solid brown. Very sessionable & tasty. While not over the top, I would recommend to the true brown fans.

12oz bottle, 2011 vintage (bottled: 9/27/11). Nice, half-hazy red-brown color, with a light caramel-colored head that fades to minimal. Decent lace sticking to the side of the glass. Good hoppiness for an alleged brown ale, here. Some spice and malt, leads to a pretty nice and interesting balance. Taste is a bit of dry bitterness from the hops and some more subtle spice, which I like. Some chocolate becomes more detectable as it warms up. Lighter, crisp carbonation, great dry texture that I’m enjoying. A standout christmas ale.

1/6/12. 12oz bottle. Murky brown pour with a khaki head that fades but laces plenty. Soapy, nutty aroma with bits of caramel. Sweet, nutty flavors with marzipan and more caramel. Nice.
2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20 dumontn (528) - CHICAGO, Illinois, USA - JAN 3, 2012
Pours hazy red with a strong beige head. Aroma is otter floor malt, biscuit, some dry fruit. Taste is fruity biscuits, raisins, woody spicy fuggle hops, soapy aftertaste. Body is full, creamy, medium carbonation, wierd soapy floral raisin finish. Overall, I had this on draft a few weeks ago and it was pretty drinkable but this bottle was absolutely awful.

Split a 12oz bottle with a buddy of mine. Poured a reddish brown color with a small white head. Aroma was earthy hops, sweet caramels, touch of spice. Flavor was about the same. It was neither good nor bad. Better than I expected, all things considered. I’ve had better Christmas/Holiday ales out there that are similar.

Bottle to glass. Reddish brown pour with small off white head. Aroma has a spicy hops flavor with toasty and caramel notes from the malts. Medium bodied and carbonation. I don’t know what I expected, but I expected more from this beer

12 ounce. Nice fig and fruit mix with brown ale and Xmas spice. Well done and unique for the over spiced Xmas beers among American craft.

16oz draft from Old Chicago poured into a shaker. Pours a cloudy dark brown with a small head. Aroma of caramel malt and some spicy herbal hops. Taste is medium bitter. Lots of spicy hops and light caramel. Full bodied with a thick and creamy texture. Lively carbonation and a long finish. Overall, very good. I wish this was year round and not just a holiday beer.
