Draft at Clybourn. Dark sepia with a puffy white head, eventually evaporates. Nose is muted, pepper and bubblegum with licorice and faint chocolate. Flavor improves, very dry chocolate with a bit of of licorice and moderately spicy roast dryness through the finish. Quite sticky but nicely dry, if too estery.

It was a chocolate milk of a beer. Extraordinarily filling and delicious, desert-like, as if chocolate ice cream had melted and fermented into a beer reincarnation. A small glass was tasty, but anything more may have been a bit much, given how filling it was.

draft... medium brown, amber fringe, expected more out of the head... the aroma is an average generic milk stout, bitter chocolate and lots of lactose... taste is more bitter than anything, doesn’t really fit the style but easy to drink... above average
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 TheAlum (3299) - Lisle, Illinois, USA - NOV 4, 2011
Flight serving on tap at the Clybourn Brewpub (Chicago, IL). Pours a near pitchblack opaque pour, dark and ominous with some brownish elements on the edges and bottom. A small frothy tannish head dies to a small layer, laces small, yet stays solid. Aromas are roasty and sweet, preaching some cocoa and coffee, earthy roasted malts mixing into gentle milk sugar, vanilla and creamy. More roast slanted with some gentle sweetness. A bit acrid. Initial is medium bodied, perhaps the heavier end. Preaching some roast and toast up front, coffee and some cocoa. Middle immediately moves into candy bar: bakers chocolate meets creamy sweet milk sugar, some toast and gentle sweet decadent chocolate. Though this doesn’t stick, the beer completing it journey with a roasty and dry finish, some touches of caramel and milk chocolate mix in, but a sufficient roast comes back into the fold, drying out with earth, coffee, and toast. An interesting and well made beer, running a journey. Roast and sweetness work well here. I can’t say this is my favorite style, but this is a well made version of it. Completing a journey, pretty balanced. Nice job. Gets a bit sweet at moments with the candybar bite feel, but it’s all good.
