A new brew from our favorite Chicago brewery, I had this one last night. I must say, it smelled terrific, but after that, it was just a pretty typical American Pale. Weaker than Honker’s even. Still, not a bad brew.

Draught: Cloudy orange bronze. Grapefruit rind aroma with a bit of sugary hops. A wonderful balance on the tongue with gooey caramel and piney hops. A bit of orange flesh rounds out a slightly bitter finish. Solid brew.

Slightly hazy copper body with a thick, fluffy white head. A seductive, hoppy nose that is not intensely hoppy, yet the emphasis lies on the grapefruit and pine resin. There are malt qualities lying underneath with hints of caramel, nuts and a light fruitiness. The body is fairly light, but just robust enough to not feel too thin. The flavors start with the subtle hops, move on to the sweet malt and come full-circle back to the hops in the end to finish with a light bitter kick. This is another well-crafted, balanced beer from the Chicago session-beer kings. If only this sample had been pulled from their glorious casks, it would be been truly magical.
