Commercial Description:
To help break the curse on the Cubs we brewed this light-medium bodied porter. The black malt contributes to a brew that is dark in color, yet mellow in flavor - with hints of chocolate - and a clean aftertaste.

On tap at clybourn. Dark brown almost opaque black with small beige head. Subtle smokey aroma with dry roasted malt. Flavor is smokey with some raspberry/raisin, prune, some roast, sweet, yeasty. Mediun to light body with light carbonation. Interesting, I don’t know if I am completely into but sessionable.

God, this beer was messed up. I don’t know if we got a bad batch or what. All I could think was heavy wine with a mildew taste. It wasn’t horrible, but I didn’t care for this at all. One questions if they actually filtered the beer through a goat. Anyway, description: Really deep brown with ruby around the edges, no head. definite chocolate and coffee in the taste and smell, but also that mildew. THe body was actually nice on it, however, like a midweight red wine.

clyborn, a while ago. pretty dark, i was surprised by a low viscosity. good example of a porter i’d say, but nothing exceptional.

On tap @ Clybourn. Black pour with a tan head. Liquorice, roasted malts, dark chocolate and light coffee fill out the aroma. Flavors of roasted malt, liquorice and chocolate. Medium body, roasy/bittersweet with a roasty finish.

I thought mine was ok. Not a powerhouse porter, but not bad. Dark black. Roasty aroma and flavor, but not to the point of too much liquid smoke. A little flat. Watery. Pretty good, but not great.

On tap at GI, Clybourn, 4/30/2005. Poured dark brown with a creamy tan head. Some roasted nuts in the aroma along with a touch of sourness. Nutty, smokey flavor with the sourness from the aroma carrying over into the flavor as well. A bit dry in the finish.

On tap at GI Clybourn. Transparent brown pour, roasty aroma. Chocolaty flavor. Decent, but I wouldn’t buy a pint of it with some of the other selections available at the brewpub.
