3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at GI – Clybourn. Poured clear reddish-amber with a medium beige head and some lacing.. nicely presented in a tulip glass. The aroma was juicy and delightfully hoppy (pear, grapefruit, and pine representin’) with some alcohol warmth.. lots of caramel and dark fruity sweetness.. enjoyed it! The flavor was too aggressive… alcohol-fueled medium-skinned (reddish) fruits with strong peppery and fruity bitterness all over.. sweetness and alcohol become too much.. very warm, sweet finish. Sweet and strong on the palate.. grainy feel and alcohol presence detract from the enjoyment.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
(10/10/08) Draught sample at the brewpub in Clybourn, Chicago. Clear reddish copper color with an off-white head. Aroma of hops, citrus, some flowers, slightly caramelly malt, toasty hints and some fruitiness. Sweet caramelly flavor at first with some biscuit hints and honey notes and some fruits. Continues with fresh hoppy flavor with nice citric tones. Medium to full-bodied with a good rounded palate. I like it.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at GI Clybourn. Aroma - hops, fruit. Pours reddish brown colr with frothy head. Mouthfeel is really nice - thick and luscious. Flavor is apple, grape, berry, hops, with a little bitterness. Very smooth for high ABV. Not too far from a barley wine. Very good.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Marvellous strong ale which captivates from the first whiff.
Many have attempted the double red ale scheme before, but few have done it with such soft edges and smoothness. One of the great beers of the recent months for me and it’s not a type I generally dig. Beautiful, shadowed cloudy dark orange. Healthy, completely lasting beige uniform head. Very full maltiness, sweet, but calm and poised. Thick, creamy, warming mouthfeel is absolutely velvety. growing sheets of grapefruit, pungent spices, orange and straight pine resin emanate in remarkable smoothness. Complex, but doing it with masterly confidence and no intimidation. Regal. Perfumey and exotic. You can only bend in front of its graceful mercy.
A bit of bubblegummy yeastiness is the sole detail that felt out of place.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft at Clybourn. Poured a clear amber color with an off white head. Diacetyl dominated nose made of of cloying butterscotch and buttery caramel. There was also a distinct whiff of alcohol and some citrus presumably imparted by the hops. medium to full bodied and sweet. Syrupy, sticky mouth feel with plenty of raw alcohol (listed at 9.4% on the menu). Lots of fruit with a big malt bill. I tasted pear, orange, cotton candy, toffee, and caramel. Not a bad beer, but a bit much.

3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Cask Pint @ Wriglyville, my first casked conditioned beer. Nice feeling overall about it. Poured a glowing red with head that lasted all the way down. Aroma was hard to find some fruits and hop scents. The flavor was strong, a mixture of carmel, grapefruit, other citrus fruits, pine. Very agressive. The body is thick don’t knw if its because of the cask or the beer itself, but I really liked it.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Nice garnet red beer with little head on draft. Nose was somewhat estery, banana bread, bubblegum, peppery alcohol, sweet caramel malt, dark fruit. Flavor was sweet somewhat bubblegummy, alcohol tingle. Thinnish body for the style. Definately not my favorite, but easy to put back.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Appearance: Pours a clear, dark red-amber body with a thin, wispy, white head.
Smell: Caramel aroma with notes of oranges, spice, pine (though light), and earthy herbaceousness.
Taste: Flash of caramel and juicy orange peels. Touch of pine. Fair amount of spice throughout. Some sugary sweetness comes and goes. Herbal, earthy bitterness. Warming bittersweet finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. Sticky mouthfeel.
Drinkability: A beer that’s part Imperial Red, part Winter Warmer, and all kinds of good.
