4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft at Churchkey, courtesy of Greg - thank you sir! Bright amber color, scant head. Aroma of whiskey. Taste is boozy caramel, oak, wood. Not much evidence of brett, but nicely complex, good character. Would like to see what happens if the brett is given more time to work.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Growler shared by shigadeyo. Poured a clear dark brown color with an average frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with fair lacing. Moderate to heavy sour, bourbon and vanilla woody aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy sour & bourbon flavor with a medium to heavy sweet & sour finish of moderate to long duration. This beer exceeded my expectation.

On tap @ Happy Gnome. Red orange appearance with an orangish white head. Wild, sour, red fruity, bourbon, and some dark malts in the nose. Slightly sour, wild Belgian ale flavor with sweet bourbon, oak, vanilla, and even a hint of the stout remains. Very complex and mostly tasty beer.

UPDATED: MAR 10, 2011 Tap at Churchkey. Wow- I’ve been wanting to try this for so long and had some high hopes. The pour is much lighter than expected- a clear, fire ruby to amber with a fairly sticky, lacing, yellow head. Pretty giant lacework for a sour beer. Low carbonation. The aroma is outstanding: mouthwatering Flemish red notes of cherries, vinegar, red wine reduction, butter, wet oak, spicy sourness, and not totally dominated by the BCS barrel’s buttery bourbon. Taste, however, is all bourbon forward with more of a watered down Jack Daniels character than Flemish red. There is lemon ice tea in there, spices, sharp tartness, but no real full sourness or Flemish red lactic or even acetic qualities. It comes across more as watered down Jack Daniels with iced tea. Pretty disappointing. I think the real problem here is that the base beer is not rich enough. In fact, I had originally assumed the beer would be nearly black instead of amber. I think this is a great place to do something akin to Struise Earthmonk or New Belgium La Folie. 8/4/6/4/14=3.6 2/9/2011
Tap at Paradiso Dupont. Maybe a better keg or just better glassware, but the nose on this pour is incredible- much more sour heavy, very funky, white grape vinous, lactic acid qualities, and buttery bourbon very present but not taking control of the aroma. Taste is more lactic forward, bourbon adding warmth, butter, oil, and body but not taking away from the slick sourness. Super easy to enjoy, very sour and funky, but beautiful. What an odd combo but what an achievement! Yum! 8/4/8/4/16=4.0
