EddieG (162), Palos Heights, Illinois, USA Jan 19, 2005 This was amped up after throwing it into a bourbon barrel for a bit. This would have scored significantly hight if the mouthfeel had that viscous, almost syrupy feel that some of the better barrel aged beers take oon. Notiwthstanding a very nice round flavor of tannins and vanilla were pleasantly offset by a strong hop middle and mild toaty malt. A beatiful red hue gave way to a thin white head. Overall, a nice twist to an odd style.
fidemaster (164), USA May 7, 2006 Ok i really cant do abetter job describing this ale then brooklynboy did. his description is dead on. One of the best res I have had CaptainCougar (4637), Rockville, Maryland, USA Jan 22, 2006 On tap at Clybourn 12/16/2005: Pours a clear mahogany ruby with a thin, light-tan head. Has a nice sweet caramel and fresh piney hop aroma. Body starts with a ton of sweet crystalized caramel and fresh piney hops. Some warming alcohol is present near the finish, otherwise a very balanced and enjoyable brew. YourDarkLord (1800), Urbana, Illinois, USA Jan 4, 2006 From growler by friendly beer provider Noah (htsprint1). This was a real taste treat. A beige head tops off a clear garnet body. The aroma was a symphony of essences: piney and citrus hops, toasted almonds, brown sugar, toffee and caramel candies. The body is rich and creamy. The flavor is a nice, slightly sweet, nutty taste. This is excellent craftmanship. Kudos to Goose Island. Philip (383), Illinois, USA Jan 2, 2006 Sampled at the December 05 meeting of the Champaign-Urbana beer club courtesy of a growler from Noah. Thanks. I’m starting to think Double Reds will be the next big thing. A beautiful copper brown pour with aromas of marzipan and hazelnut coming through above the pine and citrus. Lots of sweetness and nuttiness on the palate blending well with all the hops. A great way to do a double red. RooftopRogue (423), Champaign, Illinois, USA Dec 31, 2005 This beers says hello with a hearty aroma of hops. It is a dark copper color with a off-white head. It teases the palate with a sweet nutty/hoppy taste that has a mild tartness in the background. It lingers well leaving a nice roasted nut taste.
