Draft on tap at the Clybourn Brewpub for Black Friday 2012 (Chicago, IL). Pours a rich deep brownish red hue, darker haze, gentle glow of copper and reddis brown. Frothy tannish head dies to a firm film. Laces well. Aromas are bourbon, carmelized malts, coconut, and toffee. Sweet toffee, gentle chestnut, orange marmalade. Richer oak, spirit, vanilla, wet wood. Some gentle cherry, marshmellow, toast. Initial is medium bodied, hitting the palate with a firm toasty and carmelized malt presence, strong barrel offers bourbon, spirit, wet wood and vanilla. Gentle coconut, caramel, wet wood. Gentle tannic oak, some dryness hits with the middle giving gentle spice, carmelized malt, a shot of thicker toffee and biscuits. Gentle cherry kiss, dry florals, wet rich oaky tannins. Some gentle heat, spice, crisp caramel and toast. The beer supports the barrel, good flavor, a touch thinned and warm but it still presses on. Backend is mellow sweetness, rich barrel flavor. Biscuits, toast, and sweeter toffee. Vanilla. Firm flavors, a bit of a tannic dry and barrel finish, gentle toast, kiss of toffee, and vanilla, warming spirit lingers with a kiss of spice. I wouldn’t call it complex, but this beer holds up to and displays the barrel very well. Nice, Jared. Almost a touch of cocoa or mellow sweet darkness at times that wins me over.

On tap at the Goose Island Clybourn location. Big time oak/vanilla/bourbon scents. Taste is nice and sweet with some wood character. I can definitely get the marshmallow in this.

November 23, 2012 on tap at clybourn. Muddy brown pour with limited head. Aroma was primarily the bourbon with some sweetness. Taste had the bourbon with a burnt marshmellow, but there was some grain that came through as well that took away from the taste slightly. Medium to full body and smooth.

On tap at the Clyborn location. Pours a clear very deep brownish amber with a light brown head dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a sweet grain and bourbon note with a bit of darker grain underlying. Flavor starts with sweet grains and caramel with marshmallow and bourbon in the finish, smooth.
