Enjoyed on tap at GI Clybourn, served in a snifter. A: Pours a dark brown color with ruby highlights where the light hits. A tan head forms on the pour and recedes to a thin ring that leaves some soapy lace. S: Chocolate malt with a light roasted malt background and a nice hint of sweet booze. T: Big candied sugar sweetness with a nice mix of booze and chocolate malts. Nice roasted undertones with a little touch of honey and fruit. Nice toffee and nutty combination really round out a balanced taste. M: Medium bodied with a pretty full mouthfeel. Nice medium carbonation level with a little sweet kick to it. O: Very good. A little boozy and sweet, but it’s really good and I really liked it. Serving type: on-tap Reviewed on: 10-19-2012

From notes. Draft at clybourne. Apricots, raisins, citrus fruit and coffee. Weird, but very good.

On tap poured into a nonic sampler glass. Smells sweet; cotton candy, bubblegum, and muffins. It pours a dark, hazy mahogany color with a light-brown colored head. The head mostly disappears, except for a light ring around the glass; it leaves an oily look and no lacing. It’s mostly sweet (medium-high) with a medium-light bitterness. The mouth is full bodied and rich with a mellow whiskey and wine flavor. It’s texture is oily slick. Malty chocolate and whiskey dominate the finish accompanied by a light, mild pine note and an alcohol warmth. The aftertaste is reminiscent of dark chocolate with an alcohol dryness. This one is a nice dessert beer.

Draft at brewpub. Ugly brown drain water appearance. Thick like a puddle with some spit like lacing. Aroma has a strong smell of rotten apples. A mix of high octane, autolysis, and unfermented caramel malts. Fortunately, the flavor is much nicer. Light sweet and earth brown malts with some unfermentables left over. Just a light apple character at the end . Lighter and less high octane than expected. Sweet brown sugar syrup aftertaste. Hate the aroma, fine with flavor.

On tap at Clybourn brewpub. Color is dark brown with some reddish hues. Small tan head quickly dissipates to lace. Aroma has toffee, honey, raisins, chocolate, molasses and alcohol. Taste is sweet and a bit nutty with a boozy finish. Body is full with medium carbonation and a creamy mouthfeel. A very satisfying dessert beer.

Sampled from the tap at the Clyborn. Pours a clear deep ruby with a light brown head that dissipates to the edges slowly. Aroma has a combo of sweet and earthy grains with a bit of booze and honey. Flavor has a bit of light fruit and sweet grains with a bread note coming out in the finish.

Wonderful beer. Pours an almost black brown with some amber hues. Mild tan head that fades to lace. Raisin and ripe apricot aroma. Roasty raisin sweet flavors with a coffee bitter finish. Full bodied and creamy.

Thick brown appearance with a nice light brown head. A sweet, desert beer. Toffee, chocolate, and brown sugar. Nothing overwhelming and fairly well-balanced, but not something I would drink two in a row of... Tried with Nick and his friend in Chicago in 2012.

On tap @ Goose Island Clybourn with Erica on 10.18.2012. In town for Jen’s and Mark’s engagement party. Dark brown color. Malty aroma with some nuttiness to it. Tastes a little sweeter than it smells with notes of caramel, booze, nuts, spice, sugarcane. Wasn’t that naughty but I liked it.
