3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 pantanap (2838) - Chicago, USA - JAN 30, 2011
4oz sample at goose island cly... Pours a transparent copper orange brown pour with a thin to medium soapy white head reduced down to a thin film... Citrus and tropical fruit hops in the nose, somewhat pin the sweeter end of the spectrum, lots of crystal malt and sugar on the backend... Flavors continue on in a similar direction, citra-fruits upfront although not too sweet as the aroma suggests, and couple with a grassy hop bitterness on the backend. Predominantly fruity overall but lacking the juicy hop thrust that I’ve come to expect from a citra featured ipa or dipa. Body is on the lighter side of medium with adecent level of carbonation.

Draft at Goose Island. Pours a glowing orangey gold, mostly clear with a frothy head. The nose is very tropical and fruity with slight catty notes & crisp citrus as well. not overbearing, allowing soft malt expression to come through. On tasting, big bitterness, but not abrasive in the least. Clean and fresh, this is the type of beers GI does very well. Some light sweetness and a sturdy malt profile, all kept in balance. Really nice beer.

Very nice IPA. ahh... the description and now it makes sense, I knew it was some combination of Citra and something.. and my first guess was Simcoe! Super drinkable, excellent attenuation, great fairly sweet malty body, I really enjoy this one.

Aroma is full of grapefruit. Nice head with lots of lacing. Full mouth. Extremely bitter finish. Grassy & hop resin flavor. I did find this bit tough to drink. I liked it, but I don’t know that I would order another one. Just something about it didn’t totally click with me.

12 oz glass at the brewpub (Chicago, IL). Pours a rich dark amber hue, glowing orange amber essence, glowing, a good hop haze with frothy offwhite head. Dies to a thicker film, laces pretty well overall. Aromas are grapefruit and lemons, moderate strength, with soime healthy dry hops, bitter on the nose with some pale malts, touches of biscuits. Florals and grass mesh into the fold, with more oranges and grapefruit. Initial is medium bodied, offering dry citrusy hops, lots of grapefruit adnd zest, lemons, dry florals, grass. Quite pleasant, with some sweetness into the middle, biscuits and pale malts. Gentle as the hops become calm. Dry and bitter, lots of grapefruit moves into a more sweet finish. A solid DIPA, though it lacks intensity. It is quite drinkable, but loses out on the ’it’ or trendy factor. Overall, it’s quite a good drinking I/DIPA. Hjealthy citrust hops linger on the finish with touches of dough, pale malts. It isn’t completely overrun.. Instead, a well balanced citrusy American DIPA is what we get here. Solid.

Pour copper deep orange see through with thick white head very nice lacing. Aroma tropical fruits, citrus, grapefruit, pine, resiny hops, quite sweet in aroma. Taste nice bitter citrus and pine hops, with a caramel back bone not overly sweet. MF medium chewy sticky body with good carb. Overall very tasty brew happy I got to try this one cheers!!

On tap at the pub...The body is bright dark orange, but totally clear, very cool. An off white head leaves a thin cap, with great lacing, stellar...The aroma is really successful in that the citra hops come across as orangey and sweet but they are literally cut but the balance of the other hops which reigns it in with some nice bitter pine. I often find the citra overpowering and boring after a bit, this is a great way to address that. Some nice malty caramel takes the focus off hops being the main focus too. Really nice...I had so much hope for the taste but lets me down by being way to sweet throughout. The citra that was in check before dominates with a piney alcohol feel and taste that is so typical of a dipa. These hops don’t break up the citra enough and the malt character vanishes. I feel like I’m drinking a canister of orange scented car spray.
Great concept but needs so more tweaks before I can recommend.

Draft at clybourn. Pours copper with off white head. Nose has some pine and juicy fruit, hints of bubblegum in the background. Flavors are piney, juicy, on a simple and not too sweet caramel malt backbone. Finishes with a bit out of place spicy yeast character and bubblegum. finishes a bit watery too but this is tasty. I’m not really sure what went wrong for pantanap, sure it’s not citra god ipa but it’s still very good.

Tasted on 1/26/11 on draft at the Clybourn Brewpub. Pours clear, bright orange-amber with a thick white head that slowly recedes to smooth and even lace. The nose is tropical fruit, citrus, and pine resin hops along with a solid caramel malt backbone. The flavor is light malt up front with some grass, tropical fruit, citrus, pine resin, sweet caramel, and very bitter on the back. The body is medium with lively carbonation, and a long bitter resin finish.
