Ale with Strawberries, Honey, and White Pepper Aged in Wine Barrels

Inspired by an amuse bouche often prepared by the wife of one of our brewers, Scully brings white pepper, strawberry, and honey to a harmonious blend of “mouth amusement”. The ingredients are added at different stages to a Saison, and fermented with a normal Belgian yeast as well as a Champagne yeast.

750 ml bottle. Pale straw color with no carbonation. Aroma is honey, funky berry, spice and horse manure.

Flavor has a vinous note upfront with a pale grain body. Barnyard notes through the middle with a artificial berry note. It doesn’t give a natural berry flavor at all. It also displays a huge pepper note in the finish that is rather distracting. Texture is crisp but far from refreshing. I’m glad I didn’t spend $29.99 from this. Epic fail Adam, epic fail buddy.

Grapefruit aroma, Very sour, it's almost unbearable...don't think they tried very hard.

Pours a hazy yellow with a small head.

The aroma is bright tart fruit up front with some earthiness and funkiness. It’s defiantly got some strawberry to it.

The flavor is tart fruit but is also pretty peppery. It’s lightly sweet up front, dry in the finish with a nice but not overbearing sourness all around.

A really fun beer.

750mL bottle, pours a hazy blonde with a off-white head. Aroma brings out loads of strawberries upfront, followed by a little champagne, followed by champagne yeast, and Belgian yeast. Flavour is very complex, with loads of strawberries, a touch of pepper, and Belgian yeast. Finishes on light notes of wine and lots of strawberries. Crazy how forward the strawberries are. ABV is completely hidden. An excellent elegant sipper.

Not a saison. Too sour. Oddly sweet. Not nearly enough carbonation for a saison. The strawberry sweetness which predominates is out of place in a true Belgian saison, as is the lambic tartness. No funk at all, which is what I look for in a saison.

Like Juliet, this is a very tart brew with some sweet berry flavors that provide balance and depth. But compared to Juliet, this one is a little bit bigger: higher ABV, more sour, and more full in the palate. The honey is very delicate, but it’s there. Despite being a very strong beer, it is still quite drinkable and quenching. Best beer I’ve had yet - sorry Westy 12.

(Bottle) Cloudy gold body, medium off-white head that disappears rapidly. Very tart, berry aroma; a vinegar burn. Light to medium bodied, very carbonated, sticky mouthfeel. Flavor is tart, though not quite as much as the aroma would have you believe; honey; hint of strawberry; acidic; yeasty wood character. Dry finish. Strawberry is more evident in the aftertaste.

Pour is a murky reddish with a small white head. Aroma is a bit lactic with some berry and a nice yeasty ester. Flavor is sweet and fruity with a bit of white wine and candi sugar. Finish is a bit tart but nothing over the top. Not as good as Halia but still this is a fine beer. The perfect mix of fruit, yeast and barrel aging.

750 ml bottle. Pours orange with little head. Big flavor of funk, yeast, strawberry. Tartness lingers. Pretty damned good.
