3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Surprising good. Lots of banana and clove. Even some sugary sweetness. One of the better German Hefes I’ve had.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: JUL 14, 2007 clybourn draft. served in proper glassware at a pretty appropriate temperature. very red for a hefe, but it looks pretty elegant. taste was confusing: at first, it was a very good, flavorful hefeweizen. then, while i was eating food, for some reason it just tasted like alcohol. then i tried clearing my palate and having it, and after a little while the correct flavor returned. a bit of candi sugar was there, not a ton of banana but still a good amount of hefe character. rerate: watery and not flavorful

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Draft at the Goose Island Brew Pub. Cloudy orange beer with huge white head. Melon, cloves, and banana, as typical for a wheat. Crisp citrus sour finish, but unremarkable.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
On draught in Wrigleyville. Hazy yellow with a tremendous white frothy head. Aroma dominated by yeasty, citrus notes which is carried through in the flavor. Some fruit esters, although not some of the strong clove like flavors present in the some of the German hefeweizens. In fact, I first had this in Chicago a number of years ago, and seem to recall a more asseritve flavor profile. Nonetheless, enjoyable and refreshing.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Sample at the Clybourn location. Thick lasting snowy bubbly head topping a deep gold, opaque body...light honey-spicy banana nose, more bready than most...pleasant brown sugared bananas mixing into sourdough in the body, tending to a quite sour, slightly lactic wheat at the finish...not really enough fruity sweetness for me, but drinkable enough.

Had this on tap at the Wrigleyville location on a recent trip to Chicago. Looks like a hefe, tastes like crap. Pass.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: JUN 29, 2006 On tap at G.I. Clybourn. Poured a cloudy deep amber with just wisps of white head. Freshly-cut bananas, candy corn, tart lemongrass, and an underlying sweet maltage graced the nose. Caramel and dark-fruity sweet malts, banana extract, and candied apricot were found in the flavor with well-placed lemon tartness. Lightly-grainy on the palate with well-placed bitterness. Good hefe.. not a great hefe.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Darker than a usual hefe, more of a hazy copper. Nose very wheaty, lots of clove, also spicy, minty. Flavor is hugely clovey, big chunks of bubblegum and banana. Quite good, particularly compared to the crappy, dumbed-down 312.
