On tap @ Clybourn: Dark brown color. Roasted oatmeal and light toffee aroma. Tastes of roasted barley and pumpernickel bread. Medium light mouthfeel.

Draft at source. Nose is sweet sugary bread and toast. Not very complex, kind of one dimensional. Brown with ruby highlights and a small off white head. Light vanilla and creamy flavors with a slightly thin mouthfeel. Bready and light chocolate. Nice.

[Tap] Pours a deep brown shade with a small but robust foam head. Caramel, toasted dark breads and some cocoa powder in the nose. Flavors of toasted bread, vanilla, nutty notes, some chocolate and some earthy hops. Nice body. Sessionable and tasty. Tasting notes from 10/2014.

Sample at Hopfest 2013. Comes a somewhat cloudy brown with a decent tan head. Aroma of malt, fruit, and chocolate. Taste is malt, fruit, caramel, chocolate, and vanilla. Nice Brown Ale!

On tap; wrigleyville; pour is dark brown with a hint of amber; probably a terrible pour, but a nonexistent head. The nose is astringent, slightly fruity, with chocolate malts. Its not bad. Its a little thin and a little oily; chocolate, toffee, plums; a nice drinker

100th GI brewpubs rate! Draft at Clybourn. Pours a deep brown with ruby at the edges and a nice tan head. Nose is quite nice with a nutty chocolate note and as it warms, a fruity ester profile comes through. There is a hint of plastic if you really look for it. On taste, nice nutty roasted notes and cocoa. creamy mouthfeel and has a very well balanced nut brown slant. Really reminds me a lot of my own nut brown, just a bit less hops. Damn fine beer. Always nice to find a brown ale.

Flight on tap at the Clybourn brewpub (Chicago, IL). Pours a nice brownish pour, good haze with some clear edges, brownish glow with a small offwhite head that dies to a film, laces small. Aromas are molasses and brown malts, cocoa, and nuts. A touch of tobbacco and earth. Some dry hops, toast, and biscuits. Nice, more cocoa comes into play, caramel and toffee. Initial is lighter end of medium bodied with some toast, molasses, and brown malts. Earthy and cocoa, some caramel, more toast, sweet lingering malts, with some vanilla, nuts. Dry hops are gentle with a good toast, drying out the finish a bit. Which is good, this could get a bit cloying without it. A solid brown ale with good elements, cocoa, brown malts, toast and toffee. Dried out into the finish, sweeter and earthy up front with a nice bakers chocolate, toast, and some vanilla, hazelnut. Finish is a bit dry and toasty, with some lingering sticky malts about. I liked this, it grew on me.

On tap at GI Clybourn 7/20/09. Pours nice brown with light tan head. Roasty, caramel aroma, little vanilla. Mild sweetness, then a touch of bitter on the tongue. Light fizz on the tongue. Great example of the style
