On tap at Clybourn 12/16/2005: Opaque black pour has dark brown edges and a thin tan head. Lightly roasted bittersweet aroma has some earthy coffee notes. Starts with a nice dark caramel maltiness and some toastiness toward a thinner, sticky finish with a hint of mild milk chocolate. Enjoyable, a nice stout.

Cask. This one is uncarbonated and warm which lends itself to chugging. This is one o those stouts that kind of ends up in the middle of them all style-wise.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 Pailhead (3438) - Plymouth, Michigan, USA - JUL 17, 2011
On tap: The aroma consists of chocolate, sweet caramel, and a touch of roasted coffee. It’s a dark brown with some orange highlights and a small beige head that quickly fades to a ring around the glass that leaves minimal lacing. The flavor starts with chocolate, caramel, and fruit. The finish has some roasted malt and a touch of coffee. Medium bodied with mild carbonation. Overall, solid...but nothing really makes it stand out from thousands of other stouts.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 HighWine (511) - Elk Grove Village, Illinois, USA - JUL 9, 2011
Cask at Clybourn. Dark brown in the glass with no detectable carbonation. Cappuccino nose. Thin in the mouth with just a hint of roasty malt sweetness ip front. Roast flavors and a whisper of alcohol come.forward next. Surprisingly this seems less flavorful to me than the CO2 version on draft. It’s growing on me. Earlier Rating: 7/9/2011 Total Score: 3.6 Tap at the brewery. Roasty nose. Mahogany colored in the glass. Taste is dark.coffee roast with some smooth malt in the middle and rounded.out well with hops (but not overly bitter.) Medium mouth feel and a little.boozy at the.end.
3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 16/20 jrallen34 (3445) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAR 30, 2011
On-tap at the pub... Pours a very dark brown with a great sheeny glass look. The head disappoints though, the lightest of tans that only leaves a paper thing cap, poor lacing... The aroma is bit too subtle but yummy. An overall light coffee backbone that really entices me to drink it, however that’s it so lacking a little complexity. What’s there is excellent... The taste and mouthfeel particularly are too light, reminds me of an english porter. Bitter coffee, a hint of hops. Simple like the nose, but good.
A light stout but flavorful, feel takes some hits but I’d have again.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 TheAlum (3299) - Lisle, Illinois, USA - FEB 5, 2011
UPDATED: FEB 7, 2011 Half draft on tap at the brewpub (Chicago, IL). Pours a pitchblack opaque pour, dark and ominous with some ruby edges, moving into some brown. A nice frothy gray tan head, dies to a filmy layer and laces ok. Aromas are roasty and a bit sweet, toffee and caramel sweetness, roasted grains, touches of toast and biscuits. Some cocoa, coffee, lighter, a rich malty stout behind it all though. Initial is lighter bodied, perhaps medium with roasty malts and cocoa, touches of bitter and semi-sweet cocoa linger. Some silky sweetness, touches of creamy body and roastiness, light bitter cocoa. The chocolate groes pretty strong further in, chocolate cake and roasty malts. Sweet, rich, but not too thick in body. Tasty, with some good vibes, a bit too much cocoa.. The roast falls behind a bit much for my liking. Tasty, for the sweeter stout fan
