Inspired by visits to English country pubs, Honker’s Ale combines a fruity hop aroma with a rich malt middle to create a perfectly balanced beer. Immensely drinkable, Honker’s Ale is not only the beer you can trust but one you’ll look forward to time and again.

This has a most unusual scent to it. Their is a certain sour wheat smell that I can’t seem to cut through. Looks good, pours a dark orange color with a quickly diminishing white head. Some mild hop flavors are present along with a dry Alka-Seltzer like quality to it. Wouldn’t recommend, even though I love most of the Goose Islands I’ve had.

UPDATED: AUG 26, 2008 This is a terrific beer. Nearly perfect, really. It is a malt ninja in an era of H-bombs. Hop heads (me included), take heed of how a well balanced, subdued, old-school ESB is made! Yes, I am aware that it is listed under "English Pale Ale"--It is an ESB through and through! A perfect blend of malts, yeast and hop characters, with smoky and bready malts taking centre stage. From the great honey and biscuits nose to the apricot and peat notes in the mouth, to the great and prolonged finish; this beer is superb. Worth moving to Chicago for.

Robe blonde dorée surmontée d’une mousse blanche qui persiste. Arômes de houblon aromatique et d’agrumes. Saveurs de houblon aromatique et de céréales.

Strong, fruity aroma that reminded me of Brooklyn Ale (which wasn’t necessarily a good thing). Good initial flavor with dry finish.

Chicago Trip Friday 17:30. On tap at O’Hare. Just off the plane. Bronze with a light head. Served a little too cold. Didn’t get a strong aroma, drinking as we walked to baggage claim and out to the rent-a-car shuttle. Very hoppy beer. Medicinal hop flavour with lots of woody notes. Mouth drying finish. No malt sweetness. Like the hops but somewhat unbalanced.

12 oz bottle. Good head and lacing. Adequate bitterness, although the flavor / body didn’t last very long- kind of dies at the end, and even tasted a very slight hint of sweetness / ’soapiness’ in the finish which I wasn’t expecting. I like this beer, but it’s not in the same league as Young’s Special London or even Anchor Steam Liberty.

Dark amber beer with a little white head. Bitter fruit aroma is detectable but not too strong. Flavor is front-loaded with citrusy hop tang before rolling into a finish that is perhaps too clean. Refreshing though.

On tap at Giovanni’s in Rockford. A dark "red" with no head. Plenty of body and a well bananced ale. It had a very suttle coffee flavor. I would have this one again.

Rated 6/9/06: Amazing beer from Goose Island, to date they have yet to let me down. Pours a dirty copper color with a medium thick off-white head, ample lacing and good carbonation. The aroma is outstanding containing a slightly mellow blend of flowery hops and lots of malt. The aroma reminds me of a low key IPA. As I sip on a few of these I’m amazed at the awesome flavor. The hop characteristic is near perfect. They are very present but not overdone. Strong blend of malts keep me intrigued. The balance is perfect. Full mouthfeel with a great finish and pleasant aftertaste. Fantastic beer, I can’t say enough about this one.

355 ml bottle. Deeply murky orange pour swimming with bits. Rich, cakey, reach-out-and-touch-it florally hoppy aroma with a chewy malt background. Flavour plenty more of the same, awash with flowery orange hoppiness. Heavy but refreshing. Thickly bodied hop fruitiness far outdrinking its ABV. If only this was truly representative of a typical English pint.
