UPDATED: AUG 12, 2007 RestaurantI really enjoyed this beer from start to finish. A light copper. A little cloudy. Smooth clean very good beer.
Had a second taste. Not at a restauraunt this time and it wasn’t quite as good, but still good.

Pours cloudy, tastes good, aftertaste leaves a little to be desired... Gives slight cottonmouth.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Tasted 16/04/2006. 330ml bottle from Rumble’s, Wellington.
Pale copper, bright, lightly carbonated, with a foamy light-tan head that laces a little but doesn’t linger for long. Barley sugars and nutty grain on the nose, a hint of citrus and an appealing, faint and slightly musty, yeast note. Dry toffee-like malt up front, in the mouth, with a mild lolly sweetness. This is followed by citrus hop flavour and a strong, pepper and grass, bitterness. The malt profile holds all the way through the bitter finish. Slightly hard water but not quite as much as some English pales, like Taylor’s Landlord. Soft-medium carbonation in the mouth, medium weight. Great beer, well crafted. A classic strong pale ale, which I’m surprised hasn’t scored more strongly on here. Perhaps a little too subtle for the US market.

3.23 average. This is crazy. What a great taste, colour, and carbonation. Man I wished I lived in Chicago.

Hazy light amber color. Light malt aroma, light hop. The mouthfeel is a bit dry, with some toffee flavor and a quite good hopping. Pleasant.

Hazy amber color. Aroma of beans, malt, hop. Some malt aroma, breakfast cereals and bra; something’s wrong. Quite strong bitterness.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Clear copper colour. Bubbly head. Woody, US hop nose, and perhaps a tad of nuttiness. Loads o flavouring hops, but very plain in flavour overall. Bit thin and watery. Tasty but thin.

Brown color. Scent and taste is well balanced by malt and hops. Nice enough bitterness.

Bottle from DarkLord Brother Kevin Yeehaaaaw!
Pours a slightly anemic amber; just a tad too clear to be beautiful. Aroma is a mixture of citrus and roasted malt. Nice head on the beer. Flavor is sour malt with a hint of tangerine and grapefruit. Nice hops finish. Smooth palate. Nice beer.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Enough creamy and compact head, medium resistance. Orange/brazen color, rather limpid and much bubbly. Fruit flavored scent with notes of humid wood and roast malt. Fresh and prickly taste; harmonious with a light note of cereals and grape on the end. Determined and agreeable bitter. Balanced and rather persistent.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottled sample. Light amber in colour with lots of carbonation. Mild citrus aromas with a bit of caramel. Light malt flavors dominate, with some notes of spicy Gernan hops and some yeast bite. Very restrained in the hops department for an American pale ale. Light bodied. A little un-refined by this brewery standards, but still an ok beer.
