COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Inspired by visits to English country pubs, Honkerís Ale combines a fruity hop aroma with a rich malt middle to create a perfectly balanced beer. Immensely drinkable, Honkerís Ale is not only the beer you can trust but one youíll look forward to time and again.

I had this on tap in Chicago and then from the bottle in Iowa City and then on tap in Iowa City. The Iowa City waiter said it was the best beer he'd had in a long time. Poor bastard. I liked it a lot in Chicago and not so much in Iowa City in either form. On tap in Chicago it was creamy and delicious, just hopped so and slightly sweet. The Iowa City experiences were overly bitter and rather flavorless. Haven't been able to touch the stuff since, and it's scared me off their other products.

This beer is above average, but nothing overly special. Not much to say about this beer: simple amber/copper color, a bit of a flowery aroma, decent taste (though it might not be if you stayed with it all night). Mouthfeel was not bad, but I've had better. It's a drinkable beer, but might get filling after a few.

can;t say that i have ever tried drinking urine, but if i were to drink it i would imagine it would taste quite a bit like his brew. the warmer this stuff gets, the more it taste like a scoop out of a urinal.

one of my favorites, strong taste for its paleness, kinda fruity with a strong hops aftertaste, wish it had a little more head

UPDATED: JAN 29, 2004 Bottle pours an amber color with very little carbonation. Smells of sweetness & cat urine. Virtually no lacing or head. Luckily the taste is better than its aroma. Mild hopiness up front, but the finish is slightly roasted and flat. Nothing I'd write home about.

Firkin at Brewpub: I was never a fan of the Honker's Ale, but the wood sapped some of the hops out of the beer. Yes, they dry-hopped it with additional Styrians, but they add more to the aroma and less to the flavor, so I'd say the Honkers Deluxe is a more-pleasant variant of the standard Honker's Ale. Nice.

What a savory aroma! They really got that right. Now for the taste....um, well, itís not quite as terrific as the nose, but itís still clearly a quality APA. Bitter only in the aftertaste, so if you like a hop monster, this ainít it. How weird that this is sold in Texas, of all places.

Nice amber colored ale with a quickly disappearing head. Definite fruitiness with some character but not too strong. A good session ale.

Bottled. Once in a while I gotta remember to have one of these as reminder of ďhow it all startedĒ in this area. The Gooseís flagship beer is one of those that can start anybody on the road to good beer appreciation. An appealing orangey pour with a good head. Caramel roasty malts, and a floral/bitter hop character that only insinuates itself after a few sips. Toward the bottom of the glass, it even took on a bit of IPA character. Wonderful fruity ale taste.

UPDATED: MAY 8, 2005 Aroma is light but balanced, with a general maltiness (nothing specific jumps out) and a slight pine needle hint to the hops. The appearance is very nice, a rich red-amber with a light white head. The flavor is just like the aroma, balanced but bland, with that pine-needley taste coming through again. The palate is fine, medium feel, medium carbonation. The problem is the same finish Goose Islandís IPA has - a nasty, bitter aftertaste that lasts for ages. Iím pretty sure itís their hops - this beer is just not as good as other regional craft brews.
