COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Inspired by visits to English country pubs, Honkerís Ale combines a fruity hop aroma with a rich malt middle to create a perfectly balanced beer. Immensely drinkable, Honkerís Ale is not only the beer you can trust but one youíll look forward to time and again.

The Goose. Copper to amber in color with an off white head. The aroma is not as hoppy as I remember, but there is a nice caramelly malt aroma with a light floral hop in the background. The flavor is plenty bitter, with good balancing malt that is reminiscent of slightly toasted bread and light caramel. The body is good and the finish good. Overall, this is a well made beer, exactly what I expect from Goose Island.

bottle, pours light amber, slightly hazy, with off-white head. Sweet malty aroma of caramel and cookies, with hoppy citrus and resin note. Taste is malty, caramel, with light bitterness. Medium body, soft carbonation, bit tart aftertaste.

Just like the bottle says, the aroma is of hops and malt. However, there is sort of a sugary note to it as well. A similar effect can be noted with a flavored milk additive like Nestleís Quik. The head is short lived and sudsy while the brew looks like a mild IPA, amber. It is clear of any floatations. While the taste is nice and smooth, it is lacking of any real character. There is a hoppiness to it, but it is mild. There is a maltiness to it, but again, it is mild. It is sort of a let down from what the aroma promises. The palate is mildly assaulted with carbonation, letting a polite bitterness work its way through. Overall, when a twelver of this goes on sale, it is a tempting choice if all one wants to do is enjoy a few light beers over an evening of drinking. Most of the time, however, Iíd rather have something with some attitude.

12 oz bottle. Pours hazy amber with a medium off-white head that fades to a thin rim fairly quickly. Aroma is of sweet malts, caramel, biscuit, and a little bit of hops. Flavor is similar with a fairly decent balance between malty sweetness and hop bitterness. I wouldní t mind it having a little more hop bite though. Overall, itís fairly enjoyable and a good starting beer for converting people to craft beers.

UPDATED: AUG 30, 2008 From the bottle to my imperial pint, this malty sweet English bitter style beer has a bittersweet, mapley malt toastedness thatís skillfully balanced by well integrated grainy, lightly spicy, bitter hop flavors. The creamy smooth mouthfeel that follows becomes stickly sweet as the beer warms and the hops mellow out. Itís full on malt presence returns mid-glass with a hint of honey and brown sugar surprising the palate. Very well-crafted, and an excellent example of a highly quaffable pub bitter, G.I. Honkers Ale finishes with hints of sticky, chewy caramel.

Pretty good, but now part of "And howís her bush", so there is reason for skepticism about how this will all flesh-out. Watch how it will all of a sudden start hogging shelf space, now that AB owns it. It is all about shelf space and distributors in the liquor business.

Pours a deep amber with a thick white foam that stays. Mild malty flavor with a slightly thick creamy vanilla mid taste. ---Rated via Beer Buddy

While in Chi-town, I tried this at a local pub. Not great. Not bad. Not mediocre. It is what it was, and shall be. It was who I thought it would be, but I let it off the hook. But I digress. If there was a table with this stuff, Schlitz and Blatz, I would pound the Blatz, eye the Schlitz and let the ill-educated city folk have at this overpriced swill. All the while gleaming with VICTORY beaming from my blood shot eyes. Donít question it. Donít bother. Iíve been to Milwaukee so I ought to know.

UPDATED: AUG 27, 2006 12 oz bottle. Beautiful transmitted orange color; has a cloudy/murky reflected color. Initial reaction = not as good as Bass but better than Redhook; put it just under S.Nevada. Actually well balanced. Excellent aroma, decent lacing. Medium to high on the conditioning bite/sting. APA for sure; trying to copy the Brits using indiginous materials...Got a strange buzz from this beer, and I detect the piney-ness which is in their IPA (someone mentioned that this is the Chinook hop). Tastes like thier IPA w/ less hops.
