COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Inspired by visits to English country pubs, Honkerís Ale combines a fruity hop aroma with a rich malt middle to create a perfectly balanced beer. Immensely drinkable, Honkerís Ale is not only the beer you can trust but one youíll look forward to time and again.

The malt overpowers the hops, making for a sweeter ale. Aroma is too fruity. I wouldnít want more than one.

Big rocky head fades down to nothing atop an amber colored brew. Smells mildly malty and slightly of cardboard. Sweet malty flavor pretty much runs throughout this brew. Tastes a little old. Even if it wasnít old, this tastes like a good beer that was watered down.

A light, watery amber color with a nose of cooking wort, this ale gets better as you drink it, but still does not excite me much. The long bitter finish is nice, it keeps lingering on.

Not great, and not bad. Definitely middle of the road but slightly better than the average bear, I mean beer. But it IS number 400!

Not overly impressed, but far from the worst on the planet. Itís cold and drinkable, thatís about it.

Much better on tap than in bottles, this is a bottle review. It just doesnít seem to have anything exciting going on. Certainly a very calm (boring) version of an ESB.

Golden brown. Diminishing head leaves a few spots of lace. Smells good--fruity, hoppy, floral. A bit watery on the palate though. Just a hint of malt sweetness with a bitter finish.

light malty nose, copper hue with a small white head, malty, some pineapple tones, oily texture, reasonable stuff

A fair bit of sweetness at the start, dried out a bit by some piney, fruity hops, ever so slghtly sticky, and some bitterness. Relatively clean and easy going.

UPDATED: MAY 8, 2005 Aroma is light but balanced, with a general maltiness (nothing specific jumps out) and a slight pine needle hint to the hops. The appearance is very nice, a rich red-amber with a light white head. The flavor is just like the aroma, balanced but bland, with that pine-needley taste coming through again. The palate is fine, medium feel, medium carbonation. The problem is the same finish Goose Islandís IPA has - a nasty, bitter aftertaste that lasts for ages. Iím pretty sure itís their hops - this beer is just not as good as other regional craft brews.
