Commercial Description:
Draft ONLY -- Bottled versions should go under Bourbon Imperial Brown Goose even though the label shows Imperial Brown Goose

This special ale was brewed to commemorate batch #1800 here at the original Goose Island Brewery. This brew is based on our Gold Medal winning (Real Ale Fest '03, GABF '03) American Brown Ale, Naughty Goose, but with 60% more malt and twice the hops. After an especially long maturation period (brewed in early May), we have decided that it's ready to share with you, our valued customers! Look for a small amount of the bourbon-aged version on draft in November (which has a separate listing on Ratebeer).
The bottled bourbon barrel version was released as a feature for the Michael Jackson Rare Beer Club, and has a separate listing on RateBeer.

Draught at Sycamore. This was very interesting. Light brown ale with a candy, caramel coconut vanilla taste. Very pleasant and sweet aroma. Liked it a lot.

On tap at the Flying Saucer in KC. Listed as having 7.2% ABV. Pours a clear, deep ruby brown colored body with a sensually creamy, finger-width, tan head that dissipates slowly and leaves a great looking, slippery veil of creamy lace. Aroma is creamy vanilla, sweet bourbon, and oak. A soft sweet caramel, raisin malt with a light chocolate balance the big vanilla-bourbon really nicely. Flavor is the same. Creamy vanilla pie with a strong, but not overpowering bourbon flavor. Big caramels and raisin malts are subdued thanks to the vanilla-bourbon dominance. Finishes woody with a light chocolate and no real bitterness. Long lasting flavor after a smooth, light drying finish thanks to the wood and just a touch of booze warmth. Light body, slick and creamy, and no carbonation. Overall, I really liked this beer. Sweet with lots of vanilla and bourbon, but just enough of a balance to make this very pleasant. No real roast or bitterness, but I think they would have taken away from the accented sweet flavors that go quite well together. Great beer.

Dark amber brown color with a nice big head. Hints of nuts and caramel or butterscotch in the aroma. The same in the flavor. Nice beer

Draft at Goose Island Wrigleyville: Not sure if this is the right place for this or not - the beer I had was the barrel-aged imperial brown, but it was listed as 7.2% ABV and 55 IBUS. Anyways, phenomenal beer in many regards. Served in the proper glassware (snifter) but a bit cold. No problem, I had time. Great bronze body and a whipped thick white head. As the beer warms, both the nose and body come alive with a great balance of creamy caramel malt and woody barrel influence. Nicely bitter too, so everything just kind of jives together. Lots of vanilla, mashmellow, raisins, etc throughout. Very nice.

@Freaktoberfest, pours amazing orange with a nice cream color head, aroma of butterscotch, cherry liquor and coconut where alcohole could be sensed, flavors of coconut pineapple, pinnacolada and marmalade with a bitter hoppy finish, medium to full bodied, nice stuff

I was under the impression that the Imp. Brown Goose WAS only bourbon aged so why the multiple draft listings, rating #s and abvs? Oh well,... I enjoyed it at GI’s 09 Imp. Brown Goose Tapping at Lunar Brewing Co. on 10/07. It was snifter served, a dark brown color, with a creamy, light tan head and nice draping lace. The aroma was some roastiness, bourbon, cask oak, vanilla and coconut. The flavor added to these some nutty qualities, caramel, and chocolate, along with a smooth, creamy mouthfeel. A flavorful, ampted to the max Brown Ale. Very nice! Next up was the 06 bottled version.

On Tap @ Wrigleyville GI. Hot. Dark brown with a tan lasting one-fingered head. Had to let this warm up a bit. Huge nose of dark sweetness, maple syrup, raisens, pruns, brown sugar. starting VERY fruity and ending very roasty, with coffee and chocolate coming through. Just the right amount of sweetness and bitterness. Clean finish, thick and creamy mouthfeel.
