frankenkitty (1798), Oak Lawn, Illinois, USA Jun 10, 2005 I ordered this by the name only, expecting to receive a brown ale similar to Hex Nut... I didn’t even pay attention to the "Imperial" in the name. This was a killer, heavy beer, close to a sweet or imperial stout (Aaaaaaarrrgghhh! I have to drive, dammit!!!!) Beautiful presentation... a deep, black-body impressively filling out the curves of the tulip glass, with a filmy, mocha head. Big alcohol presence in the nose with dry, burnt malts & dark chocolate. Big & sweet in flavor with chocolate and burnt coffee in the finish. Syrupy, flat and utterly delicious.

Vac (2253), San Diego, California, USA Aug 5, 2008 Bottle sampled at RBSG ’08. Pours with an amber-brown body topped by a thick head with some lacing. It’s malty and slightly sweer with tons of vanilla and oaky notes. Full bodied, warming and smooth. dm9831 (601), Monee, Illinois, USA Mar 9, 2008 pours deep brown, with a smallish brown head. sweetish nose, fruit, creamy, perhaps vanilla-ey. flavor struck me a chocolate, or pahaps coffee, with a creamy feel, with a touch of fruit. not a style i particularly enjoy. Skyview (2901), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA Dec 28, 2007 Sampled during Cheesehead YeHA in Brookfield, Wisconsin and shared by 1FastSTi. Pours a hazy dark brown amber brew with a fast dissolving off-white head that quickly dissipates to a fine film and no ring or any head remaining. Aroma of caramel malt, plenty of bourbon character, coconuts, vanilla and toffee. Taste is medium to full bodied, very little carbonation with flavors of bourbon whiskey, brown sugar, caramel malt, some flowery hops, and a touch of vanilla. Finish is smooth, creamy with a bourbon and toffee aftertaste flavor. Definitely a decent sipping brew. pantanap (784), Chicago, Illinois, USA Nov 21, 2007 tap at clybourn....pours a muddy black brown elixir with little to no head....nose of brown sugar, caramel, vanilla, toffee notes, and bourbon.....strong flavors of vanilla, caramel, and bourbon. a little bit boozy.....pretty straightforward but an excellent sipper nontheless.....very good. holdenn (1161), Chicago, Illinois, USA Nov 8, 2007 Tap @ Clybourn. Noted in the description as commemorating batch #1800. (I think all bottle reviews should be moved to the non retired Bourbon Brown.) Pours a murky brown black with a beige head that fades to a ring. Doughy nose, rich chocolate, bourbon, caramel, toffee, caramelized sugars and fruits. Chocolate and bourbon are the strongest flavor notes with cherries, bananas, vanilla, and alcohol coming out. Solid beer.
