Commercial Description:
Traditionally, there are a lot of rules when it comes to brewing great beer. The fact that American craft brewers have broken those rules to produce some of the world’s finest beers is downright heroic. At Goose Island we live and die by hops, so breaking the rules meant pushing the hop limit to the extreme to create this monster Imperial IPA. We took three of our favorite hops, TETTNANG, SIMCOE, and CASCADE, and balanced their spiciness with tons of malt. Them we went back and dumped in MORE HOPS and more malt until this beer was exploding with flavor...strong enough to wake the dead and filled with more bitterness than a woman scorned. This Imperial IPA is absolutely gigantic, you’ll smell the hops from about a yard away. What will surprise you is how incredibly drinkable it is. Pair it up with the saltiest blue cheese you can find, and go nuts.

2006 bottle courtesy of Ughsmash. Pours a hazy caramel color with thin white head. Aroma is slightly hoppy with notes of caramel, honey, yeast, wheat, light floral esters. Flavor is sweet and floral with notes of caramel, light grapefruit, honey, floral hops, light citrus. Medium body with a pleasing floral hop and malt finish. For 3 years old, this beer still had some floral hoppiness to it.

Draft. Pours hazy orange amber with a white head. Weird herbal and sweet flavor. Not that good. This reminds me a lot of the Capt. Lawrence IIPA I had on draft a few months ago that just seemed completely off. I’m thinking maybe it was a bad keg or something with the tap lines or something because I love my IPA’s and this beer was just not good. I look forward to trying this fresh out of a bottle at some point.

Pours a deep orange. This was a 06 bottle so most hops have faded. Still had some nice floral and citrus hop nose along side some sweet caramel hops. Flavor is bitter hops, sweet malts and toffee. Some oxidation. Really want to try this fresh.

RnH: Looks like a California moutain fire in a glass... loads of fruit, orange... well balanced... oily sweaty bitter hops...body warming heat. Great brew!

On tap at rattle n hum. My original rating got deleted, damn you AT&T! Accompanied by Barry from craftbrewadvocate.com. Pour hazy gold orange. Nose is grapefruit and florals. Abundant hop tang and pine bitterness.

Stong barley aroma. Deep gold/orange with solid head. Tastes like a hopped up light barley wine with sweet roast malt and slight alcohol finish.

Bottle. Amber colored pour with smallish head. Great aroma of hops. Floral, hoppy, rich tasting DIPA. Decent but was expecting more.

Oh my god, the best beer of the evening. Hazy golden pour with a beautiful boquet of hoppiness. This was worth the wait. Nice medium bitter finish. BOING!
