Commercial Description:
Traditionally, there are a lot of rules when it comes to brewing great beer. The fact that American craft brewers have broken those rules to produce some of the world’s finest beers is downright heroic. At Goose Island we live and die by hops, so breaking the rules meant pushing the hop limit to the extreme to create this monster Imperial IPA. We took three of our favorite hops, TETTNANG, SIMCOE, and CASCADE, and balanced their spiciness with tons of malt. Them we went back and dumped in MORE HOPS and more malt until this beer was exploding with flavor...strong enough to wake the dead and filled with more bitterness than a woman scorned. This Imperial IPA is absolutely gigantic, you’ll smell the hops from about a yard away. What will surprise you is how incredibly drinkable it is. Pair it up with the saltiest blue cheese you can find, and go nuts.

12oz bottle. My first beer from Goose Island was a great one! Poured a very cloudy orange/ yellow with a small and creamy off white head. Insane nose of grapefruit and candied malt. Light hops and fruit on the palate, big malty backbone.

dark amber/orange color. Sticky, thick, bubbly off white head. Huge aroma of citrucy zesty hops. Flavour is piney resin, citrucy hops, and some nice malt. Very well balanced DIPA, and very easy drinking for 9.2%.

Thanks to Nate for this bottle. Nice bubbly little head on top of a bright amber. Loads of hops and sweet citrus on the nose, and the same on the palate but with added waxiness and malt for balance. Very drinkable for a 9.2% beer.

12oz bottle poured into a tulip glass. GIIIPA pours an ugly murky anal discharge color with a medium-sized fluffly head. The aroma has nothing unexpected. It consists of hop spice, wood and grapefruit. This is a very big beer and settles in nicely with other imperial IPAs. When a beer gets this huge it takes a more subtle palate than mine to tell them apart. I will say that this beer is surprisingly drinkable. The advertised extra malt really takes what could be easily be an unpleasant edge off.

Poured from 2006 bottle into large mouthed Chimay glass. Somewhat thin white bubbly head covering a hazy red-orange beer. Aroma of hop spiciness, and malts present. The taste is a wonderful balance between hops and malts, the 9.2% ABV is prevelant as well. Surprisingly not too bitter and not too sweet. Would definitely call it an enjoyable experience. It’s excellent leaves me wondering what this would have tasted like fresh.

Draft. Amber/Gold in color. Citrusy hop aroma. Very well balanced. Good sweet malty flavor finished with a solid hop bitterness.

Bottle. Hazy, copper pour with very little head. Aroma of sweet maltiness and citrus hoppiness. Flavor of malt, grapefruit, pine, slightly metallic. Hoppiness is strong, but not overbearing. Well balanced. Very nice.

12 oz. bottle / 2007 - thanks to gregis for the bonus!! pours dark orange with thick, suspended haze; soapy white head scatters to the edges; aromas of sugary malts and sweet hop mixture of citrus and pine; hops are very understated in the flavors as it drinks more like candy malts; hits you bitter in the throat, but not very abrasive; sweet pine hops as it goes down as you can feel its strength; bitter zing at the finish; must be a beast fresh, but wow, what a great DIPA
