CanIHave4Beers (835), Des Moines, Iowa, USA Aug 20, 2009 On tap at El Bait Shop.
Pours a nice copper color with a good head and awesome sheets of lace. The aroma is plenty of fresh hops, pine, & pineapple. The flavor is piney, lightly roasted, nicely bitter, some good alcohol notes, some fruitiness, and just a hint of sticky sweetness. Delicious stuff! drowland (1360), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Aug 4, 2009 Had in a snifter at Clybourn. Good hop aroma that’s a mix of floral and earthy... has a touch of alcohol and some sweet graininess. Okay, but I was disappointed as I love this style! FlyingTaco (112), Massachusetts, USA Jul 9, 2009 Original review date 11/22/2008...BBD 041208 into Cab glass...cloudy light bourbon honey haze with rather short head that dissipates quickly. Sparse carbonation and lacing.
Wonderful extra-potent caramel malt - hops have most likely been more potent earlier but there’s a mild int of pine and grapefruit rind. No alcohol to speak of but can sense that its tucked into the large malt quotient - slight bitterness.
Well, hey now...the hops are still in here - mostly floral - a smidge of soap on there - malt is a little more subdued than on the nose. A bit of carbonation tingle - it has definitely evolved but is getting to be a malt-forward hop bomb. Slightly disjointed but works well.
Mouthfeel is brighter than expected - layered between copious, husky caramel malt and carbonation - enhanced floral hoppiness with a touch of rind remaining. Finish is quite mellow.
This one has definitely matured but it’s also enjoyable as hell. Works slowly but evenly and quietly. Good evening sipper with decent balance of malt and hops.
ManvsCity (88), Redmond, Washington, USA Jun 30, 2009 Two half growler fills from New Beer Distributors, NYC. Incredibly rich and strong Imperial IPA that gets better the colder it gets. I put these on ice in my hotel room and was very happy with the result. Rich and complex hops blend, sweet maltiness, and just an almost perfect beer. Maverick34 (686), New York, USA Jun 13, 2009 Draft at waterfront/manhattan. Pours reddish amber with small head. Aroma is hops and fruits, taste is complex, pretty well done. deyholla (507), Bloomington, Indiana, USA Jun 5, 2009 On tap at Wrigleyville Goose Island. Poured a cloudy gold w/ an off-white head. Aroma was dominated by a mixture of hops with some underlying sweet notes. Flavor has a nice combination of hops that brings out a complex flavor. Great beer! BVery (446), Burnsville, Minnesota, USA Jun 3, 2009 TAP: great IPA. Light caramel pour with a big frothy head. Loads of malt and hop aroma, and more yet on taste. It’s just a malt-hop-malt-hop crescendo that results in loads of flavor and no lingering bitterness. Spectacular. snakeoilpete (324), Seattle, Washington, USA Jun 2, 2009 On tap at the Wrigleyville brewpub before a Cubs game. Pours cloudy orange amber with a small, lingering off-white head. Nice aroma of citrus hops, grass, and pine. Taste is heavy on citrus, more orange than grapefruit, with a little bit of caramel. Medium bodied and crisp (maybe too much so for an IIPA) with a pleasant hoppy orange juice finish.
