Commercial Description:
Traditionally, there are a lot of rules when it comes to brewing great beer. The fact that American craft brewers have broken those rules to produce some of the world’s finest beers is downright heroic. At Goose Island we live and die by hops, so breaking the rules meant pushing the hop limit to the extreme to create this monster Imperial IPA. We took three of our favorite hops, TETTNANG, SIMCOE, and CASCADE, and balanced their spiciness with tons of malt. Them we went back and dumped in MORE HOPS and more malt until this beer was exploding with flavor...strong enough to wake the dead and filled with more bitterness than a woman scorned. This Imperial IPA is absolutely gigantic, you’ll smell the hops from about a yard away. What will surprise you is how incredibly drinkable it is. Pair it up with the saltiest blue cheese you can find, and go nuts.

#200! 12z bottle. Bottled 110305. Clear reddish-pink color. Small ring of white head. Floral sweet citrus nose. LIght malt and caramel nose as well. Lively and smooth. It runs the gammit of hop flavors. Citrus and floral, piney and resinous, spicy and grapefruit. Really nice caramel, medium malt backbone. Piney and sugary. Smooth and dry. This is a fantastic IPA. All sorts of flavors. Tart dry and sweet. Me like!

(Bottle) Pours a clear copper body with a large rocky long-lasting off-white head and excellent lacing. Aroma of grapefruit and florals. Good balance of hops and malt in the flavor with a dry finish.

Medium golden, big head. Aroma is totally inviting. Intense exotic fruity, piney and citrus aroma. Some juicy sticky sweet malts as inviting a hoppy aroma as I’ve had in months. Medium bodied, great hop juice flavor. Bitterness is moderate and well balanced. The noble/tettnang blend great with the orangey simcoe and grapefruity cascades. This is excellent and I’m very excited to be able to get this kind of hop fix locally in Iowa.

Hazy golden pour with off-white head. The aroma is an onslaught of citrus, flowers and grass — ripe grapefruit, orange peel. There’s also subtle notes of sweet malts. One of the more forward and balanced aromas I have encountered. The flavor is sweet and bitter, flowery and citrusy, hoppy and malty. Distrinct taste of orange, grapefruit and grapefruit skin, sweet malts and slight notes of flowers and fruits. The long finish is thoroughly bitter. Medium to thick body clings to mouth, but is not cloying. In fact, the beer goes down quite smoothly. Excellent IIPA.

Burnt gold pour with a soapy, ivory head. I love the hop combo in the nose, seems to hit all bases equally. Citrus, spice and wet grass - fresh squeezed goodness. Some of the earthiness of the malt manages to penetrate the nose as well, adding complexity and even more depth. The body first hits you with sweet orange, tangerine and grapefruit - but then moves bitter. Not the usually knock your socks off, tongue scraping bitter reminiscent of many IIPAs either. Nice and smooth change of pace - reminds me of orange rind actually, but sugar coated. The earthy malts move along with the hops, adding balance and backbone throughout - but staying in the background, letting the hops sing. Wow, this would be a great summertime sipper in the shade. something i have wanted to try for a really long time. bottle, orange colored pour, with alot of hops, "that you can smell a yard away". while this is a little far fetched, it is still quite the hoppy iipa. rich, malty and very well balance, this is one great beer. if i could buy this all the the time, this would be my beer of choice beside of 90 minute. great beer, and very well worth whatever it costs to get some.

12oz bottle...BD 11.03.05...Yia Yia’s...Slightly hazey orange color. Initially pours w/ a nice white head which drops just as anything in a Yia Yia’s glass does...Fabulous tangerine resin nose...hops come screaming out. Man, this tastes like passion fruit, tart, citrus, insanely fruity hop quality. Bitterness is strong, but held in check by the malt very nicely...lingering resin hops keep going and going though. Nice body...not too huge making this a good gulper, which is really what I feel like doing! They did this one right. Not too sweet or too big(no BW here!)...this allows the hops to really shine through without seeming like they are forced on you...Very happy!

(a big thanks to 1faststi for hooking this up)the g.i.-i.p.a. poured an apple cider looking body with a thick, creamy white head.the aroma was a full on hop blast that consisted of grapefruit,Tang oragne punch, pine, and earth.the flavor was the same mix as the aroma and the mouthfeel was crisp, thick, and well hidden of alcohol.the flavor still lingers in my mouth even after 30 seconds of the first sip.this is simply awsome!
