Commercial Description:
Traditionally, there are a lot of rules when it comes to brewing great beer. The fact that American craft brewers have broken those rules to produce some of the world’s finest beers is downright heroic. At Goose Island we live and die by hops, so breaking the rules meant pushing the hop limit to the extreme to create this monster Imperial IPA. We took three of our favorite hops, TETTNANG, SIMCOE, and CASCADE, and balanced their spiciness with tons of malt. Them we went back and dumped in MORE HOPS and more malt until this beer was exploding with flavor...strong enough to wake the dead and filled with more bitterness than a woman scorned. This Imperial IPA is absolutely gigantic, you’ll smell the hops from about a yard away. What will surprise you is how incredibly drinkable it is. Pair it up with the saltiest blue cheese you can find, and go nuts.

Light Amber Color with Off White Head. Balanced Hop Potency on the Nose. Medium Body..Hop Coating Mouthfeel. Sweet Malt Foundation.. Dry, Strong, but Balanced Hop Flavor. Very Nice and Quite Seductive as the Alcohol Is Well Hid. Very Nice.

Had this at the Rose & Raindrop IIPA tasting, Portland. Medium bodied, amber color. Skunky aroma, same finish. not much to this IIPA. more malt, more hops, no uniqueness.

2006 12 ounce bottle from beerbill. Thanks! Pours a very hazy orange color with a small off-white head. Specks of lacing. The aroma is malty but with still an impressive amount of spicy hop notes. Taste is spicy and citrus hops with huge toffeish malt notes. Full bodied.

Thanks so much Ariane and Lo!!! Orange color with a small white head on top. Nice intense hops nose. Medium hops taste, gritty, a bit sweet and a little light body. Still quaffable!

Clear amber that starts off with a bit of chill haze. The sizeable head has enough lasting power to count. The aroma is stingingly hoppy. The piney/sprucey hops have a bit of orange zest in the background and if you sniff too hard, the eyes start to water. The flavor doesn’t disappoint. With a moderate cracker malt backed up by plenty of hop flavor and bitterness.

350 ml bottle from archer liquors. Hazy golden amber with a fizzy white head. Sweet malty grapefruit and pine aroma. Thick sticky palate. Sweet caramel, candy sugar, banana, and a slight pervasive bitterness through out.

Bottle courtesy of Monger: Poured a cloudy yellowish/copper color ale with a nice foamy pure white head with good retention and lacing. Aroma of sweet floral malt with a nice mix of hops with some citrus notes but nothing overwhelming. Taste is a complex mix between some sweet malt with a nice mix between floral and citrusy hops which provide medium bitterness at the end. Body is above average with some medium carbonation and no alcohol could be detected.

Bottled 110305. Pours a somewhat pale amber color with some haze. Head was decent lacing somewhat lacking for the style, which normally has more to display. The aroma was really really strong grapefruits, no malts coming through. The flavor was of strong grapefruits, bitter grapefruit rinds, some floral aspects before it warmed, and more pine as it warmed. Malts and alcohol depth were lacking, I was in want of some more dIPA-ness after this one. Mouthfeel was moderate. Great flavor, more depth, please.
