Our IPA recalls a time when ales shipped from England to India were highly hopped to preserve their distinct taste during the long journey. The result, quite simply a hop lover’s dream. And this classic ale adds a fruity aroma, set off by a dry malt middle, to ensure that the long hop finish is one you’ll remember.

Pours a two finger cream head that fades quickly to a thin layer leaving some lace. Light-medium carbonation and medium bodied. Cloudy amber color. Nose is light grapefruit hops. Flavor is grapefruit hops with a lingering bitter aftertaste. Malts stay hidden. $1.95 for a 12oz bottle from Colonial Spirits, Acton, MA.

Pours a hazy amber with a generous white head. Aromas of fresh hops, citrus and roasty malts are present. The taste is very forward with hops, sweet caramel and bread malts. A light sweetness and bitterness are very pleasant on the palate. This meduim-bodied, but full flavored brew leads to a well balanced, smooth finish. Nearly a great IPA.

Bottle. Pours a very lively, fizzy clear orange body topped with a dense, thick, white head. Looks very appetizing. Smell is intense hops with both grassy and fruity notes. Taste is a nice blend of fruity American hops and what feels like more grassy, floral European styles. Well-rounded bitterness all through the drink, with an extra little bite at the end - perhaps a bit too much for my liking. Nice stuff all in all, but somehow still not outstanding.

(bottle, 35.5cl) Hazy, pale golden colour with a blond and firm medium-sized foamy head. Fresh and fruity hoppy aroma, slightly piney and spicy with a mild pale malty blend. Bitter-sweet flavour, quite light bodied according to its abv, moderately carbonated mouthfeel. Soft pale malty base with fruity (citrus, pine apples) and spicy/piney hops, lingering into the light to moderately bitter and fruity finale. Clean and easy-going IPA.12.IV.10

bottle from Bierzwerg. Clear deep golden colour, mid-sized white head. Fruity-spicy hoppy nose. Medium- to full-bodied. Intensive malty background with lots of citrusy and resiny hops. Spicy, fruity with lots of citrus character in the middle, the lingering hops in the aftertaste are resiny. Very nice!

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle at Brixie’s Spring Tasting in Brookfield, IL., with a clear, golden color, modest white foam to the head, and clingy spots and streaks of lacing. The nose was a nice balance of citrus, pine, and malt. The citrus was more as ripe grapefruit in the flavor, along with smooth malt and a moderately strong hop bitterness. A very good style introduction IPA.
