Our IPA recalls a time when ales shipped from England to India were highly hopped to preserve their distinct taste during the long journey. The result, quite simply a hop lover’s dream. And this classic ale adds a fruity aroma, set off by a dry malt middle, to ensure that the long hop finish is one you’ll remember.

UPDATED: JUL 8, 2006 Not a big fan of IPA’s. Too much hop, which just peels the taste buds off my tongue. This has all the ingredients of an IPA, nice aroma, the necessary bite of hops, which all Goose Island beers have. One was enough. (2/2/2/1/8). re-rate; talk about a change in palate, I now consider this a session beer. Either my tongue has been burnt through or they changed the recipie as this is not nearly as bitter as I remember. In fact I was reminiscening with someone about the first time I tried this and how bitter it was and would like to re-live that experience again. Well not with this beer. Decent hop aroma and like their Honkers skewed toward the English style. Mildly bitter. An average example. Score reflects re-rate.

UPDATED: SEP 6, 2005 Cloudy golden color. Thin head. Little lace. Big American-style-IPA aroma. Bitter finish is like sucking on grapefruit rind. It is a world better on tap at the brewpub than out of the bottles--much fresher, more vibrant and actually worth drinking.

Wow, this is good. Toasty, with a touch on the malty side and so not quite as dry as I like them. Some citric notes. A softened feel, big foam, very clear. Robust and strong.

Bottle conditioned. Hazy gold, poor head and moderate condition. First aroma was like opening a new pocket of hops followed by a grapefruity citrusness. Underlying caramel in the mouth gets clobbered by aggressive citrus hops and a harsh hop bitterness in the finish makes it a little unbalanced for me. Not in the league of the Dogfish Head IPA or Victory Hop Devil, but what is.

Straw colored, medium-thick head with good lacing. Aroma of Fuggles-hoppy and a little skunky. In the mouth this beer tastes hoppy, but not bitter. As you swallow the tastes are that skunky hop flavor and a hint of peach. Decently balanced and definately drinkable-if you enjoy a well-hopped beer.

UPDATED: DEC 31, 2005 Very citrusy. Hoppy enough, I suppose, but finishes with a bit of a sweet taste that doesn’t seem quite right. Also, the tail end of the hops flavor is capsicum-type spicy: burns the tongue a little. Not much in the way of appearance or mouthfeel. Re-rate 12/05: Didn’t take detailed notes this time, but I did enjoy this much more than the first time I had it. Very fresh hoppy character and clean all around.

Had on tap at Clybourn. A great American IPA, chock full of hops. If you don’t like a hoppy beer, look somewhere else.

A tremendous amount of bite and tons of Fuggles and Cascades get the job done here. Ugh.
