Our IPA recalls a time when ales shipped from England to India were highly hopped to preserve their distinct taste during the long journey. The result, quite simply a hop lover’s dream. And this classic ale adds a fruity aroma, set off by a dry malt middle, to ensure that the long hop finish is one you’ll remember.

Transfer from BA review on 11-30-12- Served on tap in a 10 oz chalice glass Appearance – The beer is served a copper amber colored brew with a one finger white head. The head had a fair level of retention, fading over time to give a lighter amount of lacing. Smell – The aroma was fruity with aromas of orange, pineapple and mango as well as had a nice malty smell. Mixed with these are some hop aromas of a pine and grapefruit citrus nature. Taste – The taste begins with some of caramel and bready tastes with a lighter grapefruit citrus hop. As the flavor advances sweeter notes of a tropical and citrus fruit flavor come to tongue with the taste getting sweeter toward the middle. More hop flavors soon come to the tongue and take the taste to its end. A bitter pine and more bitter citrus come to the tongue, drowning out some of the sweet (but not all) and leaving a bready bitter but balanced hopped taste on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer was average in terms of it creaminess/thickness with a carbonation level that was average as well. Overall – A very enjoyable and drinkable IPA. One that is good for a session brew and well worth a try.

Draft. What a wonderful good beer! The dry, bitter hops are featured in every aspect from aroma, to taste, to finish. Not heavy, nor light. The fantastic hops are prominent without being isolated, even the right amount of alcohol. Just a perfect beer!

American ’single’ IPA with off-white, coarse, milky, thinnish foam and warm orange blonde colour, clear. Aroma boasts lots of citrussy American hops, grapefruit, tonic water, orange, pineapple, jam, honey, aniseed and cloves. Soft malty taste, citrus freshness, unripe peach, caramel touch, slowly increasing in hop bitterness only to end in a spicy, citrussy, assertive but not too harsh, elegant, long and dry hop bitterness. Very well-balanced IPA.

Draft pour. Pours a clear gold with a white head of foam. The aroma is big pine and grapefruit pith. The taste is fairly bitter and just a touch sweet. Highly carbonated. Spritzy mouthfeel. On the lighter side for an IPA.

December 23rd, 2012 - I blame distribution channels from keeping me and Goose Island’s keystone IPA apart for so long. It appears that everyone in the world has had the pleasure of droning a Goose Island IPA at least once, and now that it’s distribution lines include San Diego, it is easier to understand why. The marketing is aggressive, true, but it’s a solid pale ale at a good price - the same formula that popularized Sierra Nevada’s own Pale Ale. A lighter spectrum of oranges lights up in the sun, and a thinner white head ensures the drinker feels close to the beer. Pine scents and orange juice dominate the nose, and appear in varying degrees in the flavor. Mild, noble hops style flavors replace the sweetness hinted at in the nose, and a drop of grapefruit lights up the flavor all the way through a long aftertaste. The more places this appears, the better.

Pours a nice golden color with a 1 finger head. Aroma of citrus, pine, and a bit of grass. Flavor matches aroma with the addition of some sweet notes from the malt.
