3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 JCB (3859) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - MAY 29, 2013
On tap at the Broad Street Cafe, Durham. Nice golden-orange pour, fresh looking, nice buoyant head. Fairly understated as IPAs go, but this one’s been around for a minute and deserves some 1990s throwback cred. Grapefruit and mild tea in the nose, underwritten by some malty sweetness. Bright and prickly mouthfeel, goes down well. Tastes are balanced, pert, and quite enjoyable, tilted towards the bitter end as I like it.

On draft today in a cafe next to Half time in Poughkepsie, NY. Other than their propensity to take their good old f’n time to get me my beer (ten fucking minutes you black dressed floozie), this beer was essentially my lunch since they brought me my main course before the salad. (Clueless Barbarians!) I took the English pint in both hands and held on for dear life as a shipwreck victim would to flotsam. Nose of crisp hops with hints of grapefruit. Ahhh high alpha hops....how I love thee. I ordered a second beer halfway thru this one figuring that it would arrive when I wanted it. No such fucking luck from this silly pretentious bistro from hell. I sure am glad that I went shopping at half time prior to eating here with the wife. The wife finished with her lunch and we had some prattle time waiting for my second beer. I flagged down the waitress and asked her if they had poured the second beer yet. She said "oh uh, um no" "You dippy bitch! I ordered it ten minutes ago!" thought I. I said get me the check toots. She did and received a 5 cent tip. You really cant go wrong at the moment with Goose Island.
3.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 terrwils (7) - Union, New Jersey, USA - MAY 27, 2013 does not count
Very drinkable! Refreshing taste.
Aroma is "subtle", or not very pronounced.
Pours nicely. 2-3 finger cream head that dissipates quickly but leaves nice legs on the glass.
Taste is light, which is why I associate it with easy drink ability. This is an IPA that I would serve to a crowd.

Appearance: good head, cloudy brown ale. Aroma: sharp, acidic, hops, sightly citrus. taste: aroma is acidic but that sharpness is reduced in taste. Excellent hoppy flavour, smooth on the palate. Smooth, good looking and moreish.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20 rangerred (674) - Johnson City, Tennessee, USA - MAY 22, 2013
12oz bottle into a pint glass.
Pours a clear deep orange with a two finger fluffy white head. Amazing head retention and lacing. I am quite impressed.
Aroma of pine and dank with a touch of orange thrown in. There is definitely an "English" quality on the aroma as it leans more towards the earthier hops versus tropical fruit. A light touch of caramel and toffee sneaks in too.
Pine and orange on the taste with a little bit of toffee. Some floral notes and sweetness very reminiscent of the English style. Even some yeasty esters seem to make an appearance. A little biscuit in the background but the hops remain pretty far forward. Moderate bitterness and a moderately sticky finish.
Overall, a good interpretation of the style. Doesn’t really stack up to the likes of Samuel Smith but for a widely available American beer, it’s a nice job.
