3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 graham_murphy (66) - - MAR 26, 2013
Not too hoppy at all for an American IPA. Well-balanced taste with subtle falvours of orange and copper. Very drinkable but not overly exciting.
3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 biermensch (64) - USA - DEC 10, 2005
OK, time to rate this beer, as it has been appearing in my home with increasing regularity. Finally, an IPA upon which me and my wife agree. She finds it surprisingly drinkable for 58 IBU’s. I’m impressed by how refreshing this ale is. A most welcome houseguest, to keep company with alpha king and bitter woman.
4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 duke33 (64) - Eldersburg, Maryland, USA - MAR 22, 2013
Nice smooth IPA. Not too hoppy, and not too bitter. Nice medium amber color with a lacy white head.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 IPALover (63) - Carlsbad, California, USA - JUL 21, 2007
Nice IPA but alittle disappointing as it lacked the strong hoppy flavor I prefer. It also lacked a dry hop aroma and a strong initial taste. This beer did have a decent hoppy aftertaste but not as good as the better strong American IPAs (particularly from the west coast).
3.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 rodisian (63) - Connecticut, USA - APR 3, 2012
Poured from bottle - aroma of fruity hops; taste is very light caramel malt followed by a piney hoppiness; fairly bitter and finishes dry. Not a bad IPA by any means, but I like the maltier IPAs (and DIPAs) so this was not my cup of tea, especially having this without food.
4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 ausomeawestin (63) - Silver Spring, Maryland, USA - JUL 10, 2012
Pours a cloudy light amber with two inches of off white head. Head dissipates within minutes, but there is a good deal of clinging lacing that is quite beautiful, one of the beauties of nature. A good deal of carbonation is visible; an unfamiliar sight for an IPA.
Aroma is bitter citrus notes, mainly grapefruit and tangerine, with a hint of pine.
Taste is bitter citrusy hops on the front of the palate paired with some sweetness. The hops are fruity, with strong notes of grapefruit, tangerine and pineapple.
The sweetness is nonetheless hoppy with a spicy floral note, perhaps a hint of cinnamon or cardamon.
A dry alcohol flavor is on the back of the palate. There is also a creamy butter and caramel flavor at the end of the palate that is subtle but delectable.
Aftertaste is subtle, but definitely notes of caramel that dulls the bitterness.
Try this IPA if you’re looking for an IPA that is not too bitter and sweetness that is not overbearing. Its the sweetest IPA you will find that is not too sweet (I’m looking at you, dogfish head 90 minute IPA).
I imagine that this IPA would be perfect for Indian cuisine, more well suited than your average IPA at that. I say this because of the bitter hops that can cut through the spices of Indian cuisine while at the same time being complimented by the spices of this IPA. Moreover, the creamy sweet aftertaste of this beer will be perfect for soothing a palate ravaged by curry.
Overall this IPA is excellent. There is bitter grapefruit on the front of the palate followed by the emergence of notes of caramel.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 mj23 (63) - south holland, Illinois, USA - FEB 11, 2005
A nice pour good head and lacing. Hoppy aroma is there but not as much as I like. A good bottled IPA. Flavor has a little citrus and slightly bitter finish,a nice session IPA.
3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 LennyH (60) - Delaware, USA - OCT 1, 2006
UPDATED: OCT 4, 2006 Bottle. Not a bad IPA, but not enough hops for me. Pretty nice mouthfeel with a hint of caramel. More noticable malt than most IPAs. If they added more hops I think they’d have something here.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 Claymeister (59) - USA - JAN 21, 2012
On tap at Flyers - Devils Game at the Prudential Center. Appearance is golden amber. Very hoppy with citrus flavor. An enjoyable beer and a solid IPA.
