Our IPA recalls a time when ales shipped from England to India were highly hopped to preserve their distinct taste during the long journey. The result, quite simply a hop lover’s dream. And this classic ale adds a fruity aroma, set off by a dry malt middle, to ensure that the long hop finish is one you’ll remember.

Bottle acquired in trade with Ughsmash. Poured a medium and hazy amber color with an averaged sized off white head. Aromas of stronger pine with some grapefruit. Tastes of citrus and pine. Has a light sweetness to it in addition to the bitterness.

Bottle: Deep golden coloured, light hazy, firm lacing small foamy layer; deceptive rich hoppy aroma: aromatic, sweet, herbal, floral....; strong and dry bitter flavour, surprisingly light bodied, fizzy, but smooth mouthfeel, just a little sweetness in the background; very persistant floral hoppy finish, supported by a juicy maltiness. This is the real thing ! A superbly crafted Ale !

Bottle share with JF on Southampton beer up - 09/09/12. Pale golden with a large frothy white head. Nose consists of pine, hops, caramel and citrus. Taste comprises caramel malts, grapefruit, toffee. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation and a smooth finish. First time I’d had this since a visit to Clybourn in ’05 - forgotton what a decent no frills IPA it is!

UPDATED: JUL 6, 2014 Golden colour with minimal head. The aroma is citrusy with notes of lemons. The flavour is immensely hoppy but too extreme. Almost like grapefruit at breakfast which desperately needs sugar. Too hoppy for me but doubtless a fine beer. Score 3.1

12 ounce bottle courtesy of thetomG (Secret Santa Winter 10). Pours a clear pale amber color with a medium sized frothy head. Good head retention and lacing. The aroma is loaded with floral hop notes and also has notes of citrus hops, caramel and nutty notes. The taste is bitter leafy and earthy hops, some nutty notes, and a faint citrus hop and caramel finish. Medium bodied. Quite nice.

(bottle, 35.5cl) Hazy, pale golden colour with a blond and firm medium-sized foamy head. Fresh and fruity hoppy aroma, slightly piney and spicy with a mild pale malty blend. Bitter-sweet flavour, quite light bodied according to its abv, moderately carbonated mouthfeel. Soft pale malty base with fruity (citrus, pine apples) and spicy/piney hops, lingering into the light to moderately bitter and fruity finale. Clean and easy-going IPA.12.IV.10

Bottle. Pours a clear, light amber with a towering, tan head that has good retention and lacing. Aroma is buttery biscuit, some lemon, light citrus, tropical fruits. Taste is similar with lots of bready malt, lemon, fruits. Not very bitter. Buttery, rich on the palate. Not bad but fairly mediocre. A lovely session beer, but I would put this more as an amber ale than an IPA. But maybe this is just what a normal IPA is like rather than a enormous hop-bomb. I would perhaps use this as a starter beer for those just getting into the craft beer scene.
