COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our IPA recalls a time when ales shipped from England to India were highly hopped to preserve their distinct taste during the long journey. The result, quite simply a hop lover’s dream. And this classic ale adds a fruity aroma, set off by a dry malt middle, to ensure that the long hop finish is one you’ll remember.

Yellow-amber colored with a thick off-white head. Lots of citrus in the nose. Grapefruit twinged bitterness is accompanied by a toasted malt and caramel. A nicely balanced IPA, but it won’t be your cup of tea if you are looking for a West Coast hop-bomb.

Pours an orangey copper with a thin white head. Smells of citrus, pepper, caramel, some dough. Taste is initially bitter with peppery splashes, sweet malt and hints of citrus. Decent.

Fruity and grassy hops in the nose. Nice malty taste quickly followed by the dry bitterness.

Bottle... Clear golden ale with a small, creamy, white head. Excellent retention. The nose is very much like that of instant Lipton® iced tea with lemon. Medium toffee sweetness followed by moderate citrus peel bitterness. Medium-bodied with a 2%-milk mouthfeel and lively carbonation. Bitter-sweet and then astringent, drying finish. Kudos to Gillard for sharing the bottle!

I was looking for something to really stand out with this beer but nothing really did. It was hoppy but not nearly as hoppy as it would lead you to believe

(bottle) Pours light copper with a white head. Aroma of canned mandarin oranges and light pine. Taste is decent, with a nice balance between the sweet caramel malts and the bitter hop finish. Medium mouthfeel, not a bad IPA.

Bottled at Monks Café, Stockholm. Pours out in a clear orange colour with copper hints. The foam sinks quickly. Really fresh and airy hop aroma of flowers, wet grass and dried oranges. Clean resinous, but not overly bitter flavour of orange-peels, flowers and minerals. Medium bodied. Long medium bitter finish of orangey and minerally hops. A well-balanced US IPA, well-made but lacks the bite.

UPDATED: JUL 27, 2008 this is better then two brothers heavy handed and red hook long hammer. i bring that up becuase ive just drank all three in a short period; ive had the goose IPA many times over the years but these recent sessions have brought it into perspective. for what it is -- a ’mainstream craft’ brewery with a non-imperial IPA -- this is above average. it is more bitter then its peers in the least subtle of descriptions, and furthermore just has ’balls’. im usually not so terse but this isnt the most complicated brew. however in its own microcosm of non-complicated brews, it seems to excel.

This was my first micro beer on my trip back from Japan to the States! I have to say after being stranded in Japan for 6 months it was nice to have a good American IPA for once. Bought this guy right in the Chicago airport on my way to Minneapolis. Pours out a deep amber color with a really nice and thick off-white head. Grapefruit hops and pine resin all over the place on this one. I could smell the beer as I was walking to my seat to enjoy it. Flavor is very much citrus oriented and is backed by caramel and toffee malts. However, I didn’t think that the hops really took away the sweetness that much. I know some people like their IPA’s a bit sweet, I’m not one of them. I like it hoppy and balanced this one was just a bit too sweet for me to really boost the rating, this being said, this is still an excellent IPA.

very light in body for as hoppy as it is. moderately out of balance, bitterness stays with you a little too long.
