COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our IPA recalls a time when ales shipped from England to India were highly hopped to preserve their distinct taste during the long journey. The result, quite simply a hop lover’s dream. And this classic ale adds a fruity aroma, set off by a dry malt middle, to ensure that the long hop finish is one you’ll remember.

UPDATED: DEC 31, 2005 Very citrusy. Hoppy enough, I suppose, but finishes with a bit of a sweet taste that doesn’t seem quite right. Also, the tail end of the hops flavor is capsicum-type spicy: burns the tongue a little. Not much in the way of appearance or mouthfeel. Re-rate 12/05: Didn’t take detailed notes this time, but I did enjoy this much more than the first time I had it. Very fresh hoppy character and clean all around.

UPDATED: JUL 8, 2006 Not a big fan of IPA’s. Too much hop, which just peels the taste buds off my tongue. This has all the ingredients of an IPA, nice aroma, the necessary bite of hops, which all Goose Island beers have. One was enough. (2/2/2/1/8). re-rate; talk about a change in palate, I now consider this a session beer. Either my tongue has been burnt through or they changed the recipie as this is not nearly as bitter as I remember. In fact I was reminiscening with someone about the first time I tried this and how bitter it was and would like to re-live that experience again. Well not with this beer. Decent hop aroma and like their Honkers skewed toward the English style. Mildly bitter. An average example. Score reflects re-rate.

UPDATED: AUG 5, 2003 Love the hops! Big foam. I'm actually commenting on the nitro draft version, served at the original GI. The bottled version sort of wimps out but's still good. ************ Just had one on tap at the Goose and it's a changed beer. Golden, not a dark copper color as before, no nitro blend, just CO2 and it's lost a lot of the hop bite and fruitiness.

Pours a hazy light amber, with a head that fades to lacing quickly. Nice hop flavor, not too much of a finish. Decent IPA, but doesn’t compare to most of the others I’ve tried.

Yellow-amber colored with a thick off-white head. Lots of citrus in the nose. Grapefruit twinged bitterness is accompanied by a toasted malt and caramel. A nicely balanced IPA, but it won’t be your cup of tea if you are looking for a West Coast hop-bomb.

Pours an orangey copper with a thin white head. Smells of citrus, pepper, caramel, some dough. Taste is initially bitter with peppery splashes, sweet malt and hints of citrus. Decent.

Fruity and grassy hops in the nose. Nice malty taste quickly followed by the dry bitterness.

Bottle... Clear golden ale with a small, creamy, white head. Excellent retention. The nose is very much like that of instant Lipton® iced tea with lemon. Medium toffee sweetness followed by moderate citrus peel bitterness. Medium-bodied with a 2%-milk mouthfeel and lively carbonation. Bitter-sweet and then astringent, drying finish. Kudos to Gillard for sharing the bottle!

I was looking for something to really stand out with this beer but nothing really did. It was hoppy but not nearly as hoppy as it would lead you to believe

(bottle) Pours light copper with a white head. Aroma of canned mandarin oranges and light pine. Taste is decent, with a nice balance between the sweet caramel malts and the bitter hop finish. Medium mouthfeel, not a bad IPA.
