Our IPA recalls a time when ales shipped from England to India were highly hopped to preserve their distinct taste during the long journey. The result, quite simply a hop lover’s dream. And this classic ale adds a fruity aroma, set off by a dry malt middle, to ensure that the long hop finish is one you’ll remember.

FROM NOTES: November 22, ’13. A: A simple nose of citrus and pine hop aromas with light notes of Kiwi or other tropical fruit. A: Clear orange color with a one-finger head. T: Somewhat more subtle and watery than the nose suggests. The flavors are not as strong as I would have expected but it does have a nice pine and resin aftertaste, as you would want in an IPA. P: Light in body with a mildly dry texture and a soft carbonation. O: A decent IPA, but not quite bitter enough for an IPA but still tasty.

Aroma: Moderate grapefruit and caramel malt sweetness go hand in hand; very "balanced" and more typical of the IPAs that were in vogue 5+ years ago, which is by no means a bad thing. Appearance: Light gold/copper body with ideal carbonation supporting a sustained frothy white head. Nice looking beer, really. Flavor: Caramel malts up front with increasing grapefruit, which dries out most of the way toward the finish. Palate: Medium body, creamy texture, average/lively carbonation, bitter finish. Overall: This is a well-made beer, but just doesn’t hold up to the newer generation of IPAs. Still, I’m happy to have it out of my mother-in-law’s fridge.

Pours golden with a big head. Nose of grapefruit and some pine. Biscuit finish on the palate with a malty kick and a touch somewhere deep down a hint of cinnamon.

12 oz bottle from the supermarket. Aroma is Pixie Stix, faint, paint thinner. Pours slightly hazy golden with a large long-retaining off-white head with excellent retention, leaving lace. Taste is bittersweet, citrusy. Pretty average.

pours clear bright and light golden with a nice white cap, some retention and lacing. spicy toasted maltiness - quite doughy for stated abv, good dose of caramel, faint citrus and pine, white grape juice and other fruity esters. moderate carbonation, light body - relatively dry and balanced grassy-citrusy-piney-piney finish. tad muted but then again maybe a bit oldish. spicy. citrusy. straightforward. effective. example of the style for sure.

For me, I would describe this as a moderate hops ad alcohol beer, but it does have a full flavored mouth feel. Pretty decent.
