Our IPA recalls a time when ales shipped from England to India were highly hopped to preserve their distinct taste during the long journey. The result, quite simply a hop lover’s dream. And this classic ale adds a fruity aroma, set off by a dry malt middle, to ensure that the long hop finish is one you’ll remember.

Good looking light orange, close to amber body body with a large, off-white, long-lived head that turns into patches of foam floating on a film of tiny bubbles. Very good lacing. The aroma is quite unusual for an IPA: there are some hoppy citric notes of over-ripe grapefruit, but the malty elements are almost as evident. I get caramel and some almost lightly toasted notes. The malts provides a moderate to light sweet taste, while the finish is moderate plus bitter. The malty parts almost drown the grapefruit and floral notes with lots of caramel, bread and toasted notes. Good mouthfeel. A quite nice IPA, but the malty elements are a bit in the way of the fruity notes, which I think is what should rule a good IPA.

Bottle. Pours lightly hazy orange with a medium, creamy off-white head, medium retention with good lacing. Aroma is citrus and pine hops, fruity esters and biscuit malt. Flavor is moderate hops and bitterness, fruity esters and light malt with a dry finish. Medium body and carbonation with low warmth.

A decent IPA from Chicago’s only macrobrewery (despite their advertising) 12 oz bottle pours a clear amber color with a small white head. Smells mostly of piney hops. Aroma also has floral hops and caramel. Tastest Sweet at first with a clean, bitter finish. Medium body and carbonation. Definitely better than Budweiser, but nowhere near the greats in the crowded IPA field.

12oz bottle poured into a shaker. Pours a dark gold with about a finger of white head. Aroma of some citrus hops and caramel malt. Taste is light bitter. Medium bodied with a somewhat slick texture. Lively carbonation and a long finish. Overall, not bad. There are better IPAs out there but there are also a lot worse.

For me, this is a classic Chicago beer that is really enjoyable. Nice golden pour that sticks all over the inside of the glass. Great IPA taste and smooth finish. Definitely a go to beer here in Chicago, nothing too special, but at the same time, a consistently refreshing taste.

From the bottle. Cloudy golden pour with fine head. Sour citrus with floral hints. Long bitter finish. High carbonation, perhaps a little too gassy. Not a session beer but overall very nice.

12oz bottle, after reading these ratings, I was excited to try this brew. After drinking it, I can’t see how hop heads could be satisfied with this one. Overall, decent brew, average IPA at best, clean, crisp, drinkable, but not very hoppy. A good start, but not quite there yet.

Bottle 355ml, a copper beer with huge creamy head. Nose is very intense on aromatic hops, exotic fruit, lichee, pine, seems very sweet. Aroma is on honey, resin, slightly metallic, fresh oranges, low body, melon, less malty, relatively low bitterness.

Bottle from ACME Hudson. Pours light orange with an inch of white foam that leaves little lacing. Slight fruity hops on the nose. A bit pungent on the tongue with a hint of malt. Lingers a bit on the finish. Solid.

Nice thick rocky head with surging attack of surging beading. Some juicy slightly sweet bitterness with some gingfery peppery elements too. A fairly decent middle of the road IPA.
