Fermented with wild yeasts and aged in cabernet barrels with blackberries, Juliet is a tart, fruity, complex ale. Notes of wood, tannin, dark fruit and spice make Juliet an ideal beer to suggest to Pinot Noir enthusiasts and beer drinkers who are fond of Belgian sour ales.

22 oz bottle. Not bad here Goose Island. This is pleasant sour overall with some good complexities. The aroma really isn’t too far off from a pinot noir as alluded to in the deScription. Fruity berries, wine grapes, slightly nutty, and wood combined in a fairly mellow fashion. On the pour, big, bountiful fluffy almost pinkish-white head, that clumps to the sides, a cloudy body, and passion fruit colored. Very light on the tartness for a sour, and much more on the fruity sweet side on things though not terribly intense all around. Flavor notes here of mixed berries, melon fruit, light tangy grapefruit, a light nutty oak, and minor spiced funky sour. A pretty even delivery of sweet and sour throughout. I think this was significantly better than the Sophie in terms of GI’s new belgian styles.

22oz. Bottle (2009 Vintage, Bottled 8/14/09): Gusher alert! Aroma of lots of Brett, fruit, oak, light Cabernet, acid, slight vanilla, and a hint of blackberry. Poured rose/amber/pink/orange in color with a huge, pink/magenta head that diminished but lasted throughout. Cloudy. Very sparkling. Full of tiny, small, and medium-sized particles throughout. Very good to excellent lacing. Flavor is light to medium sweet, and medium tart. Tastes of Brett, blackberries, berries, fruit, light strawberry/banana, light Cabernet, oak, acid, some Earth. Medium body. Very tingly, then dry texture. Very lively carbonation. Vinous, blackberry, Brett, and oak, finish is lightly sweet, medium tart, tingly, and dry.

Sampled at Paul’s tasting. Pours reddish pink and bubbly. Arouma is grapefruit. Taste is tart and acetic. Sweet fruits like fruit punch with extra acids added. A bit woody. Not bad.

Bottle. Pours a copper amber with a bright red hue. A huge foamy, rapidly dissipating head that leaves no lacing. After a swirl and dump of the bottom of the bottle the beer becomes murky, and darker red and leaves thin vinuous red lines of lacing. Aroma is tart, sour with a rich sweet cherry note. Flavor is aggressively tart, sour with an acidic character. Finishes with a mild lingering sourness, and a lively carbonation that leaves lingering flavors long after a sip.

Bomber shared by rustychiles at the Black Friday tasting – thanks Rusty! Pours a clear firey amber with not much head. The nose is sour fruit, vinegar and wood. The taste is vinegar, malt and sour berries. Medium bodied. Nice brew.

i believe rusty brought this out on 11/27/2009. bottle jan 09 pours a hazy reddish shade of brown with a off white head which appeared to have some pink in it. it smells fruity tart... along with some woody notes, grain, must and herbs. it took me a bit to taste blackberries but they are definitely there... mixed in with minerals, red wine, wood, some vanilla, herbs and some peppery spice on the finish. the flavor and palate are shallow feeling... they lack a bit of depth and complexity. not saying it is not good, it is just missing something ... malty richness, perhaps added sour tang... to put it off. the body seems thin... light at least. but it is really drinkable. 7/4/7/3/15/3.6
