4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Thanks csteele2144! Super dark brown pour with a slamm off white head. Massive vanilla bourbon in the nose with caramel, toffee, and tobacco round out the subtleties. Lots of booze in the flavor, but its welcoming. Dark fruit, molasses, caramel, toffee, and brown sugar provide a great dark sugar profile. Very thick rich palate with silky effervescence and a sweet spirit like finish. Really nice.

4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle… This beer rocks!… Clear dark mahogany ale with a small, fizzy, white head. The aroma is a decadent swirl of singed caramel, light molasses, pouch tobacco and vanilla. Moderate influences of Dark Lord and Bourbon County Stout here. Full-bodied with a syrupy mouthfeel and airy carbonation. The flavor is boozy, caramely and loaded with bourbon and both Dark Lord and Bourbon County Stout deliciousness. Finishes bittersweet - then the malty sweetness sticks around a good while. This world class brew was generously supplied by KickInChalice!

Bottle generously shared by Eric. Clear brown pour with a faint tan head. Smooth and sweet with a all kinds of caramel and dark fruits. The bourbon notes are so mellow adding undercurrents of oak and vanilla. This is the benchmark for all bourbon barrel barley wines......

5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20
Bottle dated 10/08/11 and bottle number 811 poured into tulip
Appearance: King pours a slightly darker than mahagany brown in color with a one half finger size cream to light brown head. The small amount of head that does form dissapates fast. Held directly up to the light the color changes around the edges to a beautiful ruby red. There is some small tight bubbles rising along the side of the glass to a tiny ring around the edge. There is a decent amount of lacing present.
Smell: One of the best smelling beers. Very sweet bourbon hits me first followed up by dark fruits (raisin, plum, dates) and vanilla. There is molasses, caramel, toffee and butter evident and some obvious oak. I also get a brown sugar sweetness too. The smell on this is oh so intoxicating!
Taste: Wow the taste does not disappoint one bit! I am tasting the bourbon layered with the sweet dark fruits and the oak with a malty backbone. Vanilla mingling with brown sugar, caramel and toffee. The alcohol shows itself but does not burn in the slightest way. It is oh so smooth!! This is an outstanding complex tasting beer that has left me amazed!
Mouthfeel: The feel on this is pure velvet and smooth to the highest degree. It is superbly sticky and thick to the point where it sticks to my entire mouth including my lips. I feel like I should be chewing this instead of drinking it. The alcohol is present but again is so well hidden that it makes this so damn dangerous.
Overall: What more can I say? Best English-style barleywine I have ever had without a doubt and best beer I have ever had to date. I know this is impossible to get now but if there is any way possible to get this, GET IT!

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Trade with totoropanda @ BA. S: Alcohol, bourbon, oak, vanilla, and toffe. A: Really dark brown, almost black with a thin lacin. T: Chocolate, tofee, dark fruits, cheries, chocolate covered strawberries, hints of vanilla oak and bourbon. M: Full body, medium carbonation and rather chewy. O: Great beer, but rather boozy. Lots of great flavors that are in the pool of alcohol. Didnt live up to hype for me.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
22 oz bottle. Pours a clear reddish brown color with a small beige head. Tie aroma is a wonderful blend of caramel, vanilla, bourbon, toffee and dark fruits. The flavor is more decadent caramel, bourbon, dark fruits, toffee, fig, and golden raisins. Extremely smooth with medium body. I want more of this.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
light nose and very barrel dominated in the taste. Really thought I was better off drinking 20 year Pappy instead. Lots of barrel notes in taste and feel along with a lot of bourbon. Not real impressed for the hype this has brought out

4.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20
Received a 650 ML-1 PINT 6 FL OZ bottle of this from jbuddle & shared w/ GeoffTheAleMan & two other friends. Poured from the Maroon/Gold Labeled bottle into a 12oz Snifter Glass. Has BOTTLED ON: 10/08/11 0832 on the side of the label (have to look at bottle again).
This is Review #800 for me and I picked this beer because this has been my toughest beer thus far to land in a trade (over a $150 trade took place to get a KH). VERY excited to enjoy.
Aroma- Tons of oak and sweetness hit the nose first. Then dark fruits and light booziness come into play. This sweetness seems to have been driven by some type of syrup or burnt sugars. Fantastic!
Appearance- Pours a very viscous body that is dark brown and opaque. A 1 finger head is present for a decent amount of time. Leaves good, dark suds behind on the snifter.
Flavor- Very strong and complexed tastes all hit at once. First a slight boozy note with dark fruits and rich sugar again. Not sure I can put a finger on this sugar quality this time around though. Has a bourbon/vanilla mixture mid drink and then breaks into a slight sherry attribute. Medium bitterness at the finish.
Mouthfeel- Full Bodied, Light Carbonation, Slick and Oil like, Viscous, and leaves tons of port/sherry flavors on the palate.
Overall Impression- Wow! I’m very happy to have finally enjoyed this one! What a treat. I HIGHLY recommend getting your hands on one of these if you enjoy a fully complexed Barleywine that will keep you going back for more until your glass is empty 15 minutes later. Went quick and even had a surprisingly easy drinkability. Probably because this is such a great beer!

Bottle shared by Lunch. Thanks Paul.
The beer is dark brown with russet highlights. Atop the beer rests an oily beige head. The aroma brings roast, bourbon, malt, oak, booze. Fantastic flavor. Alcoholic warmth but unobtrusive. Well balanced and teeming with delicious flavor. Every drink begs another. I doubt I could ever grow tired of this beer. Medium to full bodied with a silky smooth feel on the palate. Simply put, this is easily one of the best beers I have ever had. My highest recommendation.
