COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Barrel Aged Barleywine. 11% ABV, 60 IBUs. Loosely based off our 2000th brew at our production facility,we revived this hybrid American / English Barley Wine for a special treat. Coming out of the tanks we aged it in barrels previously used for Bourbon County Rare Stout (Pappy Van Winkle 23 Year) to add another layer of complexity.

Note: The original release of this beer (2010) was done in regular bourbon barrels. The 2011 and bottle release saw the use of the barrels formerly used for Bourbon County Rare. We are not seperating these as I do not believe the bottles will clarify this. The original release also saw an 11% ABV, with the bottling seeing closer to 13.4%

light nose and very barrel dominated in the taste. Really thought I was better off drinking 20 year Pappy instead. Lots of barrel notes in taste and feel along with a lot of bourbon. Not real impressed for the hype this has brought out

Received a 650 ML-1 PINT 6 FL OZ bottle of this from jbuddle & shared w/ GeoffTheAleMan & two other friends. Poured from the Maroon/Gold Labeled bottle into a 12oz Snifter Glass. Has BOTTLED ON: 10/08/11 0832 on the side of the label (have to look at bottle again). This is Review #800 for me and I picked this beer because this has been my toughest beer thus far to land in a trade (over a $150 trade took place to get a KH). VERY excited to enjoy. Aroma- Tons of oak and sweetness hit the nose first. Then dark fruits and light booziness come into play. This sweetness seems to have been driven by some type of syrup or burnt sugars. Fantastic! Appearance- Pours a very viscous body that is dark brown and opaque. A 1 finger head is present for a decent amount of time. Leaves good, dark suds behind on the snifter. Flavor- Very strong and complexed tastes all hit at once. First a slight boozy note with dark fruits and rich sugar again. Not sure I can put a finger on this sugar quality this time around though. Has a bourbon/vanilla mixture mid drink and then breaks into a slight sherry attribute. Medium bitterness at the finish. Mouthfeel- Full Bodied, Light Carbonation, Slick and Oil like, Viscous, and leaves tons of port/sherry flavors on the palate. Overall Impression- Wow! Iím very happy to have finally enjoyed this one! What a treat. I HIGHLY recommend getting your hands on one of these if you enjoy a fully complexed Barleywine that will keep you going back for more until your glass is empty 15 minutes later. Went quick and even had a surprisingly easy drinkability. Probably because this is such a great beer!

Bottle shared by Lunch. Thanks Paul. The beer is dark brown with russet highlights. Atop the beer rests an oily beige head. The aroma brings roast, bourbon, malt, oak, booze. Fantastic flavor. Alcoholic warmth but unobtrusive. Well balanced and teeming with delicious flavor. Every drink begs another. I doubt I could ever grow tired of this beer. Medium to full bodied with a silky smooth feel on the palate. Simply put, this is easily one of the best beers I have ever had. My highest recommendation.

Bottle pours fairly clear dark brown with thin bubbly head. Aroma mainly bourbon and malts. Taste caramel malts, bourbon, vanilla and slight oak. This was are in GI Rare barrels and I think I can pick up just a hint of the stout flavor. Finish mainly a continuation of the flavor. Palate thick and a tiny bit sticky. Alcohol very apparent. Didnít pick up any hops.

Outstanding beer.

Pours a rich, reddish brown, no head. Aroma of bourbon, vanilla and rich malts. Taste follows, still a bit hot. Caramel, bourbon and sweet malts ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Gigantic thanks to my friend Brett for saving and sharing this bottle with me!! Pours a rich, deep cherry cola pour with minimal bubbly head. Gorgeous nose on this beer, with rich dark fruit of brandied cherries, plum, raisin, melding with touches of sweet vanilla bourbon, toffee, caramel, chocolate ganache, touches of cake icing, and port. The flavor is much the same, but man does it work. The port and caramel come to the forefront, with stunning fig, plum, and raisin sweetness mixing in beautifully. Somehow, perhaps due to the booze, the finish isnít cloying, and has a gorgeous touch of dryness to balance the sweetness. Rich, full-bodied- just lovely. A privilege.

22oz bottle shared by Mike and John, Thanks guys! Really interesting beer, a thick syrupy beer that has great flavor of coconut, caramel and vanilla.. all sweet dessert like flavors, but it worked well for me with the base barley wine, really enjoyed this.

(22oz bottle) clearish rich ruby-copper pour with creamy/soapy tan bubbles. Nose is endlessly rich and complex, vanilla, honey, rich smooth bourbon, caramel, waffles, toffee, and so much more. Taste is nearly as rich as the nose, caramel, vanilla, bourbon, light alcohol, toffee, toasty and rich in general. Medium thick body thatís syrupy without being sweet. An absolutely fantastic bourbon barrel barley wine, that may be the best ever produced.

First time I had this was last Christmas shared with family members, most recently had it again at the local Madison tasting, pours a dark brown with a thin tan head, the aroma is full of bourbon and sweet malt with a touch of maple sugar, the flavor is very bold with a ton of malt and caramel and a smoothness of bourbon in the finish, crazy smooth and drinkable for 11%, awesome beer all the way around.

Huge thanks to jjfoodie for sharing this bottle. The beer pours a brown color with a very small tan head. The aroma has a ton of maple and bourbon in it, with some nice toffee and caramel notes thrown in. Even with all of the alcohol in the aroma, the beer manages to not smell that boozy. The flavor is great as well. I get a ton of molasses, whiskey, caramel and maple, as well as a good amount of oak. All of the notes go very well together making this an outstanding beer. Medium to thick mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Very happy I got to try this one.
