COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Barrel Aged Barleywine. 11% ABV, 60 IBUs. Loosely based off our 2000th brew at our production facility,we revived this hybrid American / English Barley Wine for a special treat. Coming out of the tanks we aged it in barrels previously used for Bourbon County Rare Stout (Pappy Van Winkle 23 Year) to add another layer of complexity.

Note: The original release of this beer (2010) was done in regular bourbon barrels. The 2011 and bottle release saw the use of the barrels formerly used for Bourbon County Rare. We are not seperating these as I do not believe the bottles will clarify this. The original release also saw an 11% ABV, with the bottling seeing closer to 13.4%

Bottle, 22oz, at TFODRBSG 2012. An almost clear one, brown in color and almost without any head. Alcohol, roasted malts, some pleasant hoppyness, a touch of vanilla and a dash of chocolate. Quite chocolatey in the flavor, with vanilla, alcohol, roasted malts and a fine bitterness. Too warm on the palate I think, but it’s pleasant anyway. Full body, sweetish. Some raisins and prunes. Really lasting finish, with the alcohol a bit too obvious. Overall, a really fine beer, but it’s too warming. A sharing beer. 120818

Big thanks to Joel for sharing this whale! Wow I think I may have just tried the best barley wine ever. The nose is just incredible: hints of vanilla, oak, sweet malt..the list goes one. Very easy to drink and incredibly smooth, ABV masked very well here. Incredible!

22 oz bottle. Dark brown with a slight head that fades. Nose is caramel, chocolate, dates and whiskey. Medium body with a tang; rich and sticky. Taste is caramel, raisin, vanilla and soft bourbon finishing with an alcohol bite. Lovely, clean, perhaps in need of some complexity.

I got a 750mL bottle of the 2011 around Christmas of 2011. Pours a dark brown color with a light brown head. Scent is that of sweet cocoa and bourbon. Taste is sweet, malty, mixed with great bourbon flavors that gives a great texture. Finishes smooth with a nice bourbon flavor. Well deserving of its 100/100 rating.

Bottle. Shared at a tasting. Slightly dark color, minimal head. Taste of carmel and vanilla with bourbon following it up. Very complex beer. Wish I could have gotten another pour.

Thanks to stormking47 for bringing this one to our pre ffej of july tasting. I have wanted to try this one ever since I heard about it. A - Pours copper brown with a nice one finger tall tan colored head leaving small streaks of lace down parts of the glass. S - Smells of rich bourbon, toffee, caramel, oak, milk chocolate, vanilla, brown sugar and some dark fruits. Booze comes in as it warms up but it doesn’t overpower the aroma. T - Starts off with lots of toffee, caramel and vanilla giving way to hints of chocolate, brown sugar, dark fruits and oak. The rich bourbon is ever present yet not as boozy as I thought it would be, only becoming truly noticeable toward the end of each sip. Finish is sweet with some bourbon heat, not lingering on the palate for very long. M - Big, full body with a ton of sweet flavors and moderate carbonation. Smooth feel throughout, growing a little hot toward the end of the glass. O - So is King Henry one of the best beers in the world? I wouldn’t go that far, however it is a really nice BA Barleywine from start to finish. I just wish I had a few of these for myself.

Very sweet, with wonderful caramale notes. Rich and viscous, the aftertaste is delicious and lasts a long time.
