4.6 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bomber via trade with Aaron - thanks! Deep cola pour with a small beige head. Aroma is magnificent - oak, bourbon, and sweet caramel. Taste is wonderfully complex - consistent with the aroma. Slightly hot but it works.

Dark copper, no head. Caramel, musty booze. Pretty good. Dry finish, slightly sweet. Bourbon has faded from what I gather. It complements rather than dominates. Very good.

Pours dark brown with reddish reflects. Very low (almost none) beige head. Some lacing. Aroma is of bread, bourbon, fruits, alcohol. Taste is of bread, bourbon, fruits, warming alcohol. Palate: Full bodied. Overall: A sipper. Very good. Heavy stuff. Good balance, maybe a tad sugary.

Bottle shared by Minderbinder with tom10101, David and myself. Huge thanks for this rare treat Francis (not sure who brought the Leon or this so I’m just settling it this way)! Pours dark brown with a head that quickly subsides. Aroma-wise it was full of sweet malts and some licorice. Boozy at times, it makes up for it with its full body and malt forward taste. Flavor is again malts with a nice bourbon touch. I thought it would be more intense on the bourbon but it seems that the second use of these barrels makes for a more drinkable beer. Overall a very nice barleywine I can really see why it is so highly rated! Again, maybe if we didn’t drink the CCB Leon first this would have come up on top but does it really matter? I think not. Two excellent world class beers!

22oz bottle ’11 Vintage 1/6/12 42° in Snifter-Pours a dark brown with a HUGE overflowing tan head that dissipates into a small ring. Aroma pf brown sugar, dried fruits, molasses, roasted malt, toffee, and alcohol. Taste of the same with a bit of alcohol. not much if any bourbon. This full bodied brew is well balanced and is a nice sipping cold night kinda brew. This is darn tasty.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle (22 oz). Traded by dtmets84, thanks Dave! Dark brown with almost no head and no lacing. Aroma is boozy with notes of bourbon, malt sweetness, taste and slight fruit presence. Taste is about the same with chocolate notes and toffee being a lot more present. Mouthfeel is thick and body is heavy. Maybe the bourbon is beginning to fade? Still very complex though. Tasted back to back with CCB Leon and Leon was more fruity and more complex.

One of my favorite barley wines. Nose of sweet malt, hint of bourbon, caramel. Sweet, malty, boozy. Great beer.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pour is ruby red with a beautiful head. Aroma is deep on the bourbon. Flavors of pear bourbon vanilla toffee, dry round bourbon finish. Really smooth from beginning to end. A slight oxidation comes through ever so lightly in the end. Amazing barrel aspects from those pappy barrels they used.

Bottle courtesy of Adam. Pours a hazed brown with a thin white to beige head. Big bourno on the nose, wood, big caramel. Very soft and warm. Sweet but not cloying. Warm wood, bourbon, caramel and vanilla. Very complex, absolutely delicious. For a beer in one of my least favorite styles, this was amazing.
