COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Barrel Aged Barleywine. 11% ABV, 60 IBUs. Loosely based off our 2000th brew at our production facility,we revived this hybrid American / English Barley Wine for a special treat. Coming out of the tanks we aged it in barrels previously used for Bourbon County Rare Stout (Pappy Van Winkel 23 Year) to add another layer of complexity.

Note: The original release of this beer (2010) was done in regular bourbon barrels. The 2011 and bottle release saw the use of the barrels formerly used for Bourbon County Rare. We are not seperating these as I do not believe the bottles will clarify this. The original release also saw an 11% ABV, with the bottling seeing closer to 13.4%

Bomber shared by Craig, thanks man! Pours a deep murky brown color with a medium beige head. The aroma is huge sweet bourbon. The flavor is likewise dominated by rich sweet bourbon, very heavy, a warm and at times hot brew, some sweet sugars, light char, malty. Very big and tasty.

Bottle @ ZeeBra Extreme Beer Festival 2013. Brown pour, no head. Aroma of vanilla, bourbon, leathery, ripe fruits and caramel. Flavor is sweet with loads of bourbon, fruity, bitter and vanilla. Great brew.

Bottle @ ZeeBra. Aroma has big malts, caramel, bread and fruity notes. Flavour is huge bourbon, some liquorice and roast, some fruity notes, long lasting bourbon, some alcohol but not in a disturbing way.

Refined glowing copper colour. Barley wine like, raisins, aged. Rich powerful taste. Concentrated. Oily body, big alcohol but worth it. Enormous amounts of taste complexity. Awesome. (ZeeBra)

Medium brown, thin off-white head. Dark bread crusts, toffee, maple syrup, raisins, a little cocoa, a leathery aged character, bourbon barrel evident, , vanilla.

Pours dark brown, lighter at the edges. Little to no head. Quite murky. Aroma is a great blend of huge molasses, vanilla and oak. Sweet bourbon note. A bit hot still. Tons of caramel, treacle and other toasted sugars. Taste is similar. Tons of molasses and caramel. Pretty big booze note. Good vanilla and other barrel notes. Some of the bourbon delicacy is gone but it’s still a nice sweet flavor. Thick feel. A bit syrupy but it works well with the flavor. I think it’s not quite as good as it was fresh but still a delicious beer and it’s a shame that more barley wine/old ale style beers aren’t made in this style. Great stuff.

Aroma is fairly complex with lots of dark fruit, some smoke and tobacco, and some faint wood character. Some light bourbon alcohol notes in the finish. A bit boozy. The dark fruit is raisin and prune. There is also some pecan notes an nuttiness in the aroma. Pours an almost still brown with hints of ruby. No lacing and medium legs. Fairly sweet flavor with a lot of nuttiness, caramel and dark fruit. Some light chocolate and tobacco notes with hints of leather. The nuttiness is mostly pecans and the dark fruit is raisin and prune. Hints of treacle. Bitterness is moderately low. Some bourbon character with light oak notes but the wood is fairly faded as is the bourbon. A bit boozy and hot, but not too bad. The oxidation is surprisingly light with some sherry notes. Mouthfeel is full bodied with very low carbonation. Astringency is low with medium alcohol warmth. A bit sticky but surprisingly not bad. Overall better than I was expecting and it hasn't faded as much as I thought it would have. The aroma is really great and complex but the flavor is a bit boozy and muddled. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle - WALEZ tasting. 2011 vintage. Pours hazy ruby with a small tan head and a bit of lacing. Complex aroma of molasses, bourbon, dried fruit, burned caramel, dates, figs. Flavor is medium sweet, strong date notes, some wood and light astringence from the wood. Medium body, oily mouthfeel. Warming finish from the ABV. This is one of those beers that lives up to the hype. Wow!

Aroma of bourbon, black cherry, toffee, plum, chocolate and rye. Pours deep brown with no head whatsoever. Taste is wonderful with vanilla, black cherry, oak, toffee, and pure angel semen. It is wonderful and everything I hoped.

Bottle in trade from a BA guy. Aroma and flavor is brown sugar, caramel sauce, some molasses, extremely smooth bourbon, and tiramisu. I get the knocks on carbonation, and definitely not for you, if you don't like sweet beer. That being said, this beer excels in the bourbon department for obvious reasons. This is the smoothest bourbon barrel-aged beer I've ever had, where the flavor of the beer is still excellently balanced, although I'm still sitting on Rare. Amazing beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
