You might think this is a Russian style girly beer (a little Nabokov for you), but instead it is a very sophisticated Raspberry Belgian Ale. Fermented with brettanomyces (the little guys who give us that tart zing) and fresh raspberries, this brew is bright yet deep with spices and edges of the fruits natural tart quality to give it a white wine kind of finish.

Bottle: Rose hued amber, pinkish hued pour, thin sudsy white head, little lacing.   Somewhat of a fresh immature raspberry puree aroma, with a bit of woody white grape notes.   Tart on the tongue, young pre-ripened raspberry flavors.   Not terribly sour, but a bit puckering.   Enjoyable for sure, and thankfully doesn’t come across as artificial.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Soft finish, tart, a little puckering in that dry I ate that raspberry too early feeling.   Thanks for the bottle Jeff!

22oz bottle from fear025. Slightly cloudy amber/red with a fizzy head that quickly fades to nothing. Aroma is musty barnyard, raspberries, red wine vinegar and oak. Flavor is tart/sour bugs and yeast with some acidic berry and vinous. Light to medium body with a really dry mouth feel. Nice beer, has a lot of wine character as well as being quite sour.

Poured from a refrigerated bottle. 2011 vintage. Pours a brownish red with a head similar to a soda pop. No head retention at all. It just fizzles away in a matter of seconds. The aroma is that familiar tart fruitiness I do so love. I can’t say I can nail down the exact fruit, so that is a bit of a flaw in my book. The taste is all sourness until it warms and opens up. At this point I can tell there are raspberries involved. Up until this point, though, the only thing I can make out is a tart dryness. I do enjoy the sourness of this beer, but it could use a little more depth to accomplished capturing the true character of a raspberry.

22oz bottle from Armanetti’s. 2011 Vintage, bottled on date of 11/12/11. Pours a crystal clear, ruby tinted orange colored body with a thin, fizzy, pinkish white head that dissipates quickly and leaves a light lacing. Aroma is tart raspberries with a good amount of bretty funk. Some woody tannins, a light acidity, and just a touch of malt sweetness. Flavor is similar. Big bretty funk up front with a nice raspberry tartness. Touches of bready malts and vanilla with a nice woodiness. A few tannins and a light acidity as this finishes dry and tart with a good amount of funk. Some vinous notes mixing with the somewhat cheesy funk in a lengthy aftertaste. Light body with a lively carbonation. Overall, a pretty excellent sour. Dry and tart with a faint sweetness that drinks really easily. The funk has really come on nicely with a little aging and mixes very well with the tart raspberries. Great beer.

Bottled@Monks Café Stockholm (backlog). Reddish orange golden colour with a small slightly off-white to pink head. Aroma is quite wood, big time raspberry along with some mild acidic notes. Flavour is really tart wooden and raspberryish notes along with some slight acidicness and mild spicyness. Could do with some slightly more funky notes.

Pour clear amber red, with a small and quickly vanishing fizzy head. Aroma of rasberries, sweets, slight brett, slight barnyard. Quite vinous, and rather delicious. Adult candy is what this is !! Taste is a little sour, with some really nice sweet and candy-like notes. Average body, with a slightly fizzy carb.
