765 ml. bottled 06 Aug 2015, indicates 7.8% abv. Red-copper body with a sizzling away, soda pop head. First aroma out of the bottle is toasted oak, but it’s quickly overtaken by fresh raspberry and notes of brown sugar, cream and wine. Flavors of tart raspberry, mild vinegar, cream and caramel. Touches of wine, mineral water and toasted oak in the long finish, maybe a hint of funky cheese as well. Medium body has a smooth, medium-plus carbonation. Acidic tartness and mild astringency provides a refreshing and highly drinkable balance to some big malt flavors.

A good, fruity sour beer. Smells of a nice sharp raspberry. The taste overall is good, but doesn’t fully overcome a strong alcohol bite.

degbert (1589) - Austin, Texas, USA - APR 13, 2016
Bottle. Pours a clean red-orange with a slight, fine-grained, pinkish head. Nose is almost Burgundy-like: earthy, mushroomy, herbal, but also fruity and sharp, with a clear element of fragrant raspberry and a touch of funk. Sour with very little sweetness on the tongue; it unfolds into a wild yeast complexity with layers of berry, acidity, umami, and bitterness forming a harmonious whole. Burgundy comes to mind again; there is just so much going on here, but it never gets overly busy. Finish is long, warm, and tart. Amazing.
