You might think this is a Russian style girly beer (a little Nabokov for you), but instead it is a very sophisticated Raspberry Belgian Ale. Fermented with brettanomyces (the little guys who give us that tart zing) and fresh raspberries, this brew is bright yet deep with spices and edges of the fruits natural tart quality to give it a white wine kind of finish.

Celebrated Xmas eve with a vintage 2010 bottle. Pours a deep brownish purple with no head. Deep scented with oak followed with tart raspberries finished off with a musky sour smell. Being the bottle is over 4 years old it has mellowed a lot, has a nice tart finish but is not overly sour. Begins tart on the tongue then the middle of the palate is a nice medium high carbonation finished with a yeasty bread finish. Lots of complexities going on.

2010 Bottle. Incredible hold up. Very well rounded flavors. Reminds me of hommage. Very lightly tart but tart, raspberries and spices then the raspberry fades/ lingers then fades leaving spices that lead into intricate oak flavors and funk. I like. Only critique. Mouth feel is a little light.

650 ml bottle, 2011 vintage bottled on 11/12/11. Deep amber with a pink hue color, aroma is Brett and white wine with oak, as it warms the berry shows up. Some complex notes, Taste of tart raspberry, cherry skins, and herbal funk upfront. Tons of tartness with light vinegar tones in the back of the sip. Light wine notes are intermingled throughout the brew. The finish is extremely dry with a cotton mouth feel after a full snifter.

Overall more tart then true sourness, no pucker in the taste buds. Mild amount of funky oak. For me I’m glad it is more tart rather then sour. I have no idea if the quality of this brew suffered after the In-Bev take over this is vintage is extremely enjoyable!

Bottle. Moderate hay for the malt, light grass for the hops, light to moderately barnyard for the yeast, with hints of raspberry, vinegar, wood and sour apple. Head is small, fizzy, translucent white with some slippery lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is clear auburn, but murky on the last pour. Flavor starts heavily acidic and sour, then finishes moderately to heavily acidic and lightly to moderately bitter. Palate is light to medium, dry with a fizzy carbonation and a tart and dry finish. This Sour Ale is not so overpowering as to be unenjoyable by me, very drinkiable in fact.

lg shared bottle Very fruity aroma Flavor moderately tart; light funk, raspberry. Moderate carbonation. Slight hazy, slighty rosy tint to the medium amber body; decent head. O: a mix of wild yeast, fruit and tartness that works notably better than average.
